Astronomers have published the largest and most complete 3D map of the Universe ever created. It includes more than four million individual galaxies and ultra-bright quasars and is the result of two decades of research from an international team of researchers. The map provides an accurate look at the scale and expansion of the universe from shortly after the Big Bang onwards. Will Percival of the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, who was involved in the project, said it yields a 'complete story of the expansion of the universe'. The map relies on the latest observations of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, titled the 'extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey'. Data was collected over six years from an optical telescope in New Mexico. Lots is known about the earliest portion of the universe's life as many researchers have studied the Big Bang. However, there has always been a gap in knowledge in the middle portion of the universe's existence, lasting around 11 billion years. #science

Chicago's top cop said his officers were ambushed during violent clashes between protesters and police last week near a statue of Christopher Columbus as objects were hurled at officers during heated confrontations between the groups. Police Superintendent David Brown said his department has faced "organized actions to provoke violent responses from our officers" during a Monday news briefing where a video of Friday's events at Grant Park was released. He said peaceful demonstrations spanning several weeks have been hijacked by what he called "organized mobs." Brown said 49 police officers were injured, including one with a broken eye socket and another who had a broken kneecap. Twelve people were arrested for mob action, damage to property and attacking police officers.

On Thursday, July 16, 2020, around 10:25 p.m., a hit and run traffic collision occurred on Vernon Avenue just east of Wall Street. The collision involved a pedestrian who was in the No. 1 lane of westbound Vernon Avenue and was struck by a light-colored SUV. The pedestrian was launched into the eastbound No. 1 lane of Vernon Avenue and then struck by another vehicle described as a light colored 2011-2015 Dodge Charger. Both drivers of the vehicles failed to stop, identify themselves, or render aid. Tucker Carlson attacked the New York Times on his Monday night show, claiming they are to run a story about the host and his family. Carlson, 51, ended his program saying that he very rarely made the story about himself but that he was going to make an exception after hearing that the newspaper was planning to expose where he and his family live in Washington D.C. 'As a matter of journalism, there is no conceivable justification for a story like that,' Carlson said of the proposed story, which he said is due to run later this week.
