President Trump on Friday will travel to Mount Rushmore to mark the start of Independence Day weekend with a firework display -- coming at a time of vigorous national debate over America’s history, and when the South Dakota landmark is under renewed scrutiny by activists.Keystone protesters block road leading to Mount Rushmore ahead of Trump's Independence Day speech.
A driver believed to have been speeding crashed their car through the roof of a Texas beauty salon early Friday, sending the driver to the hospital and significantly damaging the business. A witness said that she was opening her Northeast Houston business at around 5 a.m. when she heard the car. The witness estimated the vehicle was going around 100 miles per hour. A driver lost control of the car while trying to make a turn. The vehicle hit a curb and went airborne before plowing through the hair salon. Salon owner Jennifer Johnson estimated the crash caused around $300,000 in damage. She told the station she had a “full list of clients” scheduled for Friday. "I'm at a loss for words," she said, adding that she now has to “figure out how I'm going to re-establish my salon." The unidentified driver was initially trapped inside the wreckage before being extracted by firefighters. Reports say the driver was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

President Trump on Friday will travel to Mount Rushmore to mark the start of Independence Day weekend with a firework display -- coming at a time of vigorous national debate over America’s history, and when the South Dakota landmark is under renewed scrutiny…
More than 100 protesters faced off with the National Guard and police officers in Keystone, South Dakota on Friday after crowds blocked off a road leading to Mount Rushmore ahead of President Donald Trump's arrival. Activists and members of different Native American tribes gathered on a highway protesting the occupation of South Dakota's Black Hills that they say were taken from the Lakota people against treaty agreements. Authorities declared an 'unlawful assembly' before police and National Guard soldiers moved in and a standoff ensued, with officers using pepper spray and smoke bombs to disperse crowds. At least 15 protesters were arrested after ignoring police officers' orders to clear the area.
President Trump took the stage in the shadow of Mount Rushmore on Friday night to condemn what he described as a "merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values, and indoctrinate our children" in an address to mark the beginning of Independence Day weekend. "This monument will never be desecrated," the president vowed early in his speech. The president also castigated left-wing activists and practitioners of so-called "cancel culture" who have targeted statues and monuments of historical figures across America in recent weeks. "This movement is openly attacking the legacies of every person on Mount Rushmore ..." Trump said. "Those who seek to erase our heritage want Americans to forget our pride and our great dignity, so that we can no longer understand ourselves or America’s destiny. In toppling the heroes of 1776, they seek to dissolve the bonds of love and loyalty that we feel for our country, and for each other."
