A Texas corner store clerk shot and killed a robbery suspect Monday night who allegedly first fired at him after trying to pass a counterfeit $20 bill, according to reports. The Houston Police Department responded to calls about a robbery taking place at the Super Qwik Food Store off Fulton Street and Julia near the North Freeway around 10 p.m. By the time officers arrived at the scene, a man had been shot and was transported to the hospital, where he later died. The man, who has not been identified by authorities, allegedly tried to use a counterfeit $20 to make a purchase, but the clerk told him he could not accept the bill, KTRK reported. Police said the robbery suspect then made his way into the clerk’s secured area, pulled out a gun and fired at him at least once within close range, narrowly missing him. The clerk then pulled out a gun of his own and fired at the man, striking him multiple times.

A Georgia judge on Tuesday granted a $500,000 bond for the Atlanta-area police officer accused of killing Rayshard Brooks at a Wendy's parking lot. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Jane Barwick said Garrett Rolfe, 27, could be released as he awaits trial. She said the predominant issue in setting bond was whether a defendant would show up to court and said Rolfe could have fled following his arrest but instead turned himself in. Rolfe must wear an ankle monitor and has a strict 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew. His attorneys argued that he should be released on bond because the evidence against him shows he was justified in using deadly force and because he is a "longstanding, law-abiding member of this community who will stay here to fight this case." Rolfe was charged with felony murder and 10 others offenses for his role in the June 12 shooting of Brooks. Rolfe turned himself in on June 19 and has been in custody ever since.

Police in Georgia are searching Tuesday for a suspect they say stole a car and then “maliciously drove it” into a cemetery, knocking over two gravestones. An image of the aftermath released by the Carrollton Police Department shows that the front of a 2016 Chevy Cruze sustained heavy damage during the incident Saturday. The department said in a Facebook post that whoever was behind the wheel caused “significant damage to a gravesite.” Investigators also said the family whose loved one’s gravesite has now been ruined has been notified. Anyone with information about the case is urged to call police at 770-834-4451.
