A wildfire on California's Central Coast quickly grew to several hundred acres on Monday, forcing the evacuation of residents in the area. Cal Fire said as of Tuesday morning the Avila Fire burned about 400 acres north of Pismo Beach and was only 10 percent contained. The blaze began as a vegetation fire at around 3 p.m. but then spread. Firefighters reported the blaze was spreading at a rapid rate, and they were battling the fire with aircraft dropping fire retardant. Highway 101 was closed for several hours as the wildfire raged, but lanes were reported open by late Monday night. The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said as of 9:30 p.m., evacuation orders were lifted for all areas except for four streets in the Pismo Beach city limits.

New York City police have determined there was no criminality in an incident where three officers became sick and were hospitalized after drinking Shake Shack milkshakes they believed were contaminated with bleach. Police came to the determination after 'a thorough investigation,' NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison said in a tweet early Tuesday. Harrison said: 'After a thorough investigation by the NYPD's Manhattan South investigators, it has been determined that there was no criminality by Shake Shack's employees.' Investigators believe a cleaning solution used to clear the chain's milkshake machines wasn't fully washed out and seeped into the officers' drinks.
Every time NYPD officers kill someone, the city will release audio and video recordings to the public within 30 days, Mayor de Blasio said Tuesday, the latest in a series of reforms prompted by widespread anti-police-brutality protests. He announced three criteria for releasing the bodycam recordings: when an officer fires their gun and a bullet hits someone or “could” hit someone; when an officer tases someone to death or causes “substantial bodily harm;” and when other use of force results in death or “great bodily harm.” Footage will first be shared family members of those involved in use-of-force incidents, the mayor said, and will be made available online to the public within 30 days.

Two San Francisco-area elementary schools named after a pair of founding fathers who owned slaves will get new names after a school board approved a Black Lives Matter resolution last week, according to a report. The Berkeley Unified School District Board unanimously endorsed the measure on Wednesday amid renewed efforts nationwide to take a second look at monuments and buildings honoring controversial figures. The move means the board can begin the process of renaming schools named after George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, the first and third presidents, respectively. It was not clear what names are under consideration. The district already has schools named after Rosa Parks, Malcolm X and Sylvia Mendez, the child at the center of a 1947 case that outlawed segregation in California schools. A push to rename Jefferson Elementary School failed in 2005 when a motion on the matter didn't pass.

⚠️ #WANTED! Atlanta officials released photographs on Tuesday of a second suspect in their arson investigation at a Wendy's, which was burned down following the death of 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks. Images of the two arson suspects, both white females, were shared during a press conference at a fire station on Manford Road. Previous pictures reportedly showed one suspect wearing black clothing and a facial covering. The new photos show another woman without a mask, wearing a black top with a purple shirt wrapped around her waist and a necklace. The State Arson control board offered an additional $10,000 reward in the case after authorities had previously announced a $10,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.
