A woman has died in Atlanta after getting stuck while trying to retrieve clothes from inside a donation box. Investigators were called to the grisly scene behind Henry’s Midtown Tavern early Thursday after its owner reported finding an unconscious woman. “The victim used a chair to climb inside the clothing dispensary to retrieve clothing, somehow lost her footing and was entrapped inside of the metal box,” Atlanta Police Capt. F. Turner told Fox5 Atlanta. “The way that the door is made, it is spring-loaded and is a very, very heavy metal door,” he added. he station says it took four firefighters to remove the 26-year-old woman from the box – and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin. “If folks need any type of clothing or any type of help, you have Salvation Army, United Way,” Turner said following the incident. “There are a lot of services provided to the less fortunate instead of taking those measures.”

Law enforcement officials are urging the Seattle Police Department to retake control of the East Precinct after hundreds of demonstrators overtook Monday the six-block area that surrounds it. Officers effectively abandoned the area during violent clashes with demonstrators calling to defund the police. Demonstrators have since set up occupancy in that section of downtown Seattle and have renamed it “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone”. Police have also said they have received numerous complaints about armed guards surrounding the perimeter and asking residents who live in the area to show ID. Police have also alluded to the potential extortion of local businesses and citizens. The SPD is working on a strategy to negotiate with protesters but has been unable to identify the leaders of the group. Michael Solan, president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild, told Fox News' Laura Ingraham "We lost a precinct, now, what’s next? Are we going to lose another precinct ?”
More than half a million customers lost power late Wednesday as severe thunderstorms blasted through the Midwest after remnants from Tropical Storm Cristobal merged with another storm. The National Weather Service's (NWS) Storm Prediction Center (SPC) said there were 300 reports of wind damage on Wednesday, concentrated over Michigan, northeast Indiana, Ohio and into northern Kentucky. Many locations reported winds approaching 70 mph; downed trees and power lines damaged homes and businesses. In Michigan, 430,000 customers of the state’s electric utilities, Jackson, Michigan-based Consumers Energy, and Detroit-based DTE Energy, were reported to be without power late Wednesday. And as of Thursday morning, power outage tracking site poweroutage.us showed more than 288,758 outages in Michigan and 100,500 outages in Ohio.

A combination of dry weather and record heat in recent days has led to several wildfires in California, forcing some evacuations. Officials in Ventura County issued an evacuation order for a remote area of Piru located about 48 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles for a blaze known as the Lime Fire. The blaze broke out Wednesday afternoon near the Lake Piru campground and has burned about 450 acres so far. Fire officials said Thursday that two minor injuries have been reported so far, and the fire is 20 percent contained. Firefighters told the blaze has the potential to reach 1,000 acres and at least 25 structures are threatened. Over 125 firefighters are on the scene. The blaze, which is spreading quickly, is burning in an area where the terrain makes access difficult. Officials said that fire was about 70 percent contained as of Thursday morning.

A Connecticut State Police trooper was almost struck by an unsecured load of steel pipes that fell from a tractor trailer on a highway on Wednesday. The trooper was at the scene of a crash on northbound I-95 when an oncoming tractor trailer slammed on its brakes causing two of the pipes to dislodge and travel into the cab of the tractor trailer, out the windshield and into the path of the trooper. Luckily both the trooper and the driver of the truck escaped injured. A dashboard camera video released by the Connecticut State Police shows the incident unfold as the trooper was set back behind another trooper who was blocking the left lane due to the crash leaving a car disabled in that lane. "Whether operating a passenger car or commercial motor vehicle, it is imperative to check and secure your load prior to operating the vehicle. In addition, always be aware of your surroundings, specifically when travel ways become congested," officials said in a statement.
