Officer Carolyn Anderson fractured her right wrist during the frightening fall after she and another officer tried to subdue the suspect shortly after 2 a.m. at the 125th Street station along the Lexington Avenue line, the New York Daily News reported. Anderson tried to secure the legs of Anquando Johnson, 25, while her partner, rookie cop Elijah Pardieu, pressed his arms and torso to the platform floor. Then the suspect kicked Anderson in the face. As Anderson — who was wearing a mask — tried to resume the battle, Johnson managed to roll onto his back. The move gave him some leverage when he forcefully kicked Johnson squarely on her hip. Anderson stumbled backward, lost her balance, and fell and somersaulted onto the grimy local subway track. As she fell, a northbound express train barreled into the station on the other side of the platform. #NYPD

Police in Hong Kong have arrested at least 14 veteran activists and a media tycoon on charges of joining unlawful protests last year. Among those arrested were 81-year-old activist and former parliamentarian Martin Lee, and advocates Albert Ho, Lee Cheuk-yan and Au Nok-hin. Police also arrested media tycoon Jimmy Lai, who founded the local newspaper Apple Daily. The protests in the semi-autonomous Chinese territory against proposed extradition legislation exposed deep divisions between Hong Kongers and the Communist Party-ruled central government in Beijing. The bill - which would have allowed Hong Kong residents to be sent to mainland China to stand trial - has been withdrawn, but the protests continued for more than seven months, centred around demands for voting rights and an independent inquiry into police conduct. #HK
