A 19-year-old pregnant woman from Guatemala died this week from injuries suffered when she fell more than 19 feet trying to climb the U.S. border wall near El Paso, Texas, last Saturday, U.S. and Guatemalan authorities said Thursday. Guatemala identified the woman as Mirian Stephany Girรณn Luna. Medical personnel tried to deliver her baby, but were unsuccessful, both governments said. The U.S. said Girรณn was eight months pregnant, while Guatemalan authorities said she was at seven months, Fox News reported. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) blamed Girรณnโs death on human smugglers who encouraged her to try to climb the wall. In a statement, Gloria Chavez, the chief for the Border Patrolโs El Paso sector, said the authorities would work with Mexico โto find those responsible for placing these lives in danger.โ

Not to downplay coronavirus, but the 2009 swine flu epidemic infected 61 million Americans, killed over 12,000 and I don't recall anywhere near this level of hysteria.
Forwarded from Vincent James
There's a couple reasons for this I think: The rise of the internet and the rate of information flow in 2009 VS now, and also the swine flu had a 0.02% death rate in America VS the 2-3% death rate of the Wuhan virus they're reporting today. If 61 million Americans get the Wuhan virus, at the low estimation of 1% death rate, this would equal 610,000 Americans dead. Obviously the media, seeing an opportunity to hurt Trump, is also adding to the panic.

Professor Chandra Wickramasinghe of the Buckingham Centre for Astrobiology has alleged that the meteor that exploded over China in October released viral particles. Once in the upper stratosphere, the virus either fell to Earth or got caught up in the stratospheric air currents that circle the Earth, he told the Daily Mail. From here, the virus has spread along 'a global band of between 40โ60ยฐ latitude north', with all the 'main strong cases' appearing 'exactly along that range', he said. ๐ฝ #facepalm
