Grass Valley police released body camera footage showing a police officer rescuing a man from a burning house. Officers were called to the home on East Empire Street for reports that a person was trapped inside on Feb. 18. Officers first checked the front of the home and were met with nothing but smoke and flames. Officer Jonathan Brown was running out of options when he made the decision to check inside a side door, according to the Grass Valley Police Chief Alex Gammelgard. That’s when he found the man, identified in the video as Corey, who lived there inside, on the ground. The officer is heard shouting the man's name, and kicking in a side door where he found Corey unconscious on the ground. He grabbed Corey's feet and dragged him out of the house "I got him," the officer is heard saying on the video. "Go get a medic!". The man had third-degree burns to his legs and may have burned his lungs, but medics got to him in time.

U.S. stock indexes fell sharply again at the open on Friday as the rapidly spreading coronavirus outbreak raised the alarm for a possible global recession. The Dow Jones Industrial average lost 463 points, or 1.8 percent, at the opening bell on Friday, and losses quickly widened to as much as 1,000 points, one day after the index's biggest one-day point drop in history. If the Dow closes down by more than 1,000 points on Friday, it would be the third time this week β€” and the second day in a row β€” that the index lost points in the four digits, something that had previously only happened twice in history. Globally, some $6 trillion, or about 10 percent, has been erased from stock values as markets in Asia and Europe plunged on fears that the outbreak will shrivel corporate profits there. At their heart, stock prices are determined by expectations of a company's future profits.

The #coronavirus could be up to 1,000 times more infectious than SARS because it plagues the body in the same way as HIV and Ebola, scientists warn. Experts initially presumed the spread of COVID-19 would follow the same trajectory as the SARS outbreak in 2002/3, because the viruses are almost identical genetically. But they have discovered the way it binds to cells in the human body is akin to far more aggressive diseases like HIV and Ebola. This makes it '100 to 1,000 times' more efficient at infecting people than SARS, according to researchers from Nankai University in Tianjin, northern China.
