An airplane evacuating as many as 240 Americans from Wuhan was diverted from Ontario Airport to a nearby military airbase late on Tuesday amid a #coronavirus outbreak in the Chinese city. The U.S. government chartered the plane to fly out diplomats from the U.S. Consulate and other U.S. citizens. It left before dawn local time and has made a refueling stop in Alaska. It was due to fly on to Ontario, California, but late on Tuesday it was announced the flight would be diverted to March Air Reserve Base in Riverside. China's first dedicated coronavirus hospital has opened in a city near Wuhan after workers and volunteers spent just two days converting an empty building to a 1,000-bed emergency facility. The first batch of coronavirus patients were transferred to the Dabie Mountain Regional Medical Centre in Huanggang at around 10:30pm local time on Tuesday. The extra capacity will be crucial for overwhelmed medical staff in Hubei, the locked-down province at the centre of the crisis. Another hospital is being purpose-built from scratch in Wuhan 47 miles away and is expected to be completed later this week after just a week of construction. More than 6,000 people around the world are now confirmed to have been infected with the Wuhan #coronavirus and 132 have died in China. ☣️

Mexico's military confiscated a $20 million cocaine shipment that was unloaded off a jet parked on a Mexican highway near the Belize border. The Mexican National Defense Secretary said Monday night that the two-seater aircraft used in ferrying the drugs was registered in the United States. The drug traffickers landed the Beechcraft King Air aircraft on a two-lane road in Bacalar, a municipality in the Caribbean coast state of Quintana Roo. The crew had ample time to load a van that was filled with 26 bags containing between 30 to 40 kilos of cocaine. Officials also revealed that the twin-engine jet departed South America at an unspecified time, most likely Sunday, and was detected in Mexican airspace Monday approximately at 3.30am. It is unknown if the suspected traffickers were the actual owners of the plane.
This boulder may have rolled to a stop on a highway in Colorado, but the subsequent messages from police created an avalanche on the internet. The San Miguel Sheriff’s Office tweeted Monday afternoon that a "large boulder the size of a small boulder" had completely blocked the eastbound lane of Highway 145 at mile marker 78 just outside of Telluride. "Please use caution and watch for emergency vehicles in the area," police said. It was the description of the rock that set off a flurry of responses. As of Wednesday morning, it was retweeted more than 38,000 times with 202,000 likes and more than 8,300 replies.

— "Footage of Tanker on fire off the coast of the Emirate of Sharjah, UAE"

🔗 Katie McQue (@katiemcque)
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Wednesday it had received reports of a vessel on fire northwest of the United Arab Emirates’ emirate of Sharjah, Reuters reported. Ships in the area were initially alerted through a separate advisory, seen by Reuters, which said an oil tanker was on fire. “This Advisory is not classified as a Maritime Security Event and has not been verified by UKMTO,” the email with the report said. Separately, a spokesman for the U.S. Navy’s Bahrain-based Fifth Fleet said they were aware of an incident off the coast of Sharjah and were monitoring the situation. UAE authorities could not immediately be reached for comment. 🔥
Two Polk County deputies were taken to the hospital after their patrol car was hit head-on by a drunk driver going the wrong way Tuesday night, FOX13 reported. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was driving south on Combee Road when he saw a red pick-up truck traveling north cross the center line and begin traveling north in the southbound lane. He swerved to avoid a collision. The pick-up then crashed head-on into another patrol car. The two deputies in the car were taken to the hospital. One was treated and released, while the other was admitted for non-life-threatening injuries. A third vehicle that was traveling behind the patrol cars swerved to avoid a collision and ended up in a ditch. The driver of the pick-up truck, India Williams, 46, was arrested for DUI. Two breath samples showed her blood alcohol content at 0.145 and 0.151, that’s almost twice the legal limit in Florida.

A 20-year-old man caused a stir in a Tennessee courthouse when he advocated for the legalization of marijuana and then proceeded to spark a joint in front of the judge, ABC7 reported. Spencer Alan Boston was appearing before Judge Haywood Barry on Monday at the Wilson County Courthouse in Lebanon, on a simple possession-of-marijuana citation, when he began to tell Barry that marijuana should be legalized. Courtroom video captured what came next: Boston is seen seen reaching into his jacket pocket, pulling out what appears to be a joint and lighting it up, taking multiple puffs. Boston faces two new charges: disorderly conduct and simple possession of marijuana. He's being held on $3,000 bond, online jail records show. He'll also have to serve 10 days in Wilson County Jail because Barry held him in contempt of the court, according to Moore. 🥴
