A massive 7.7-magnitude earthquake in the Caribbean triggered a tsunami warning in several countries including Jamaica, Cuba and the Cayman Islands on Tuesday. The quake struck at 2.10pm EST in the strait between Jamaica and Cuba. Its epicenter was about 72 miles northwest of Lucea, Jamaica, and 87 miles southwest of Niquero, Cuba, at a depth of 6.2 miles, according to the US Geological Survey. The quake was felt as far away as Miami, where several downtown skyscrapers were evacuated. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued an alert cautioning that waves up to 3.5-feet above the normal tide level were possible along the coasts of Belize, Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. No deaths or injuries have been reported and the extent of the damage is still emerging as new images show massive sinkholes opened up on roads in the Cayman Islands and residents say what appears to be sewage is spilling out of broken pipes.

An airplane evacuating as many as 240 Americans from Wuhan was diverted from Ontario Airport to a nearby military airbase late on Tuesday amid a #coronavirus outbreak in the Chinese city. China's first dedicated coronavirus hospital has opened in a city near Wuhan after workers and volunteers spent just two days converting an empty building to a 1,000-bed emergency facility. The first batch of coronavirus patients were transferred to the Dabie Mountain Regional Medical Centre in Huanggang at around 10:30pm local time on Tuesday. The extra capacity will be crucial for overwhelmed medical staff in Hubei, the locked-down province at the centre of the crisis. Another hospital is being purpose-built from scratch in Wuhan 47 miles away and is expected to be completed later this week after just a week of construction. More than 6,000 people around the world are now confirmed to have been infected with the Wuhan #coronavirus and 132 have died in China. ☣️

Mexico's military confiscated a $20 million cocaine shipment that was unloaded off a jet parked on a Mexican highway near the Belize border. The Mexican National Defense Secretary said Monday night that the two-seater aircraft used in ferrying the drugs was registered in the United States. The drug traffickers landed the Beechcraft King Air aircraft on a two-lane road in Bacalar, a municipality in the Caribbean coast state of Quintana Roo. The crew had ample time to load a van that was filled with 26 bags containing between 30 to 40 kilos of cocaine. Officials also revealed that the twin-engine jet departed South America at an unspecified time, most likely Sunday, and was detected in Mexican airspace Monday approximately at 3.30am. It is unknown if the suspected traffickers were the actual owners of the plane.
