Health officials in Brazos County, Texas, on Thursday said they are investigating a suspected case of the deadly new coronavirus in a person who recently traveled to Wuhan, the Chinese city where the virus originated. The patient, who was not named, has been isolated in their home after health care providers recognized their symptoms as consistent with the coronavirus - which has killed 18 people and sickened more than 600 across at least nine countries. So far only one case of the virus has been confirmed in the US - a Washington state man who was diagnosed on Monday after returning from a trip to Wuhan. Officials are also investigating another potential case involving a passenger who flew into Los Angeles International Airport from Mexico City on Wednesday. The two new suspected infections came as health experts warned that the US will likely see an increase in cases as the coronavirus continues to spread at an alarming rate. โฃ๏ธ
UN officials were BANNED from using WhatsApp over security concerns because 'it's not supported as a secure mechanism,' a U.N. spokesman said on Thursday, Reuters reported. It comes after U.N. experts accused Saudi Arabia of using the messaging platform to hack the phone of Amazon CEO and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos. The independent U.N. experts said on Wednesday they had information pointing to the 'possible involvement' of Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the alleged 2018 cyberattack on the billionaire Amazon chief. They called for an immediate investigation by U.S. and other authorities, based on a forensic report by Washington-based FTI Consulting. The report alleges that Bezos' iPhone was hijacked by a malicious video file sent from a WhatsApp account used by the crown prince.

The death toll in China's coronavirus outbreak has risen to 26, hours after World Health Organization officials said it was 'too early' to declare the incident an international emergency. More than 800 cases have been confirmed globally since the SARS-like virus broke out in the central province of Hubei, including one in the US and two in Japan. The vast majority of cases have been recorded in Hubei's capital of Wuhan over the past month, but the virus has now spread to other parts of the world during the busy Lunar New Year travel period. The World Health Organization said during a press conference on Thursday that an emergency could still be declared a PHEIC if the outbreak continues to spread. It comes on the heels of the Chinese government announcing that it was locking down Wuhan, the city of 11 million people and the epicenter of the outbreak. โฃ๏ธ
