Firefighters have found the body of a second victim following a massive explosion and fire at a chemical factory in northeastern Spain, Reuters reports. The explosion in Tarragona a day earlier left another eight injured, rescue officials said, and the fire continued to burn on Wednesday. While the blaze has been brought under control, local authorities said on Twitter they had yet to identify the second victim: “There is structural risk in the area and work is being done to stabilize the area and safely reach the victim.” Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s office said he was in touch with Catalan authorities and that Madrid was ready to “provide the necessary support due to this serious event, which has caused several injuries and substantial material damage.”💥🔥

Donald Trump took a victory lap on Wednesday, telling a White Huose audience of dignitaries that a new trade deal with China will bring 'a future of fair and reciprocal trade.' The president has long complained about a massive trade deficit between Washington and Beijing. He pledged during the 2016 campaign to come down hard on China. 'We are righting the wrongs of the past,' he said Wednesday, observing that 'our negotiations were tough, honest, open and respectful.' Trump was not accompanied by Chinese President Xi Jinping, who sent Vice Premier Liu He in his place. Xi's absence left some with the impression that Washington wants the deal more than Beijing does. The president announced that he will 'be going back to China in the not-too-distant future to reciprocate,' but it's unclear what he would be reciprocating for. Vice President Mike Pence said the deal would guarantee $40-50 billion in Chinese purchases of American agriculture products.

Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev has today resigned along with his government as president Vladimir Putin tightens his grip on power (the two leaders are pictured together left and right in Moscow today). The shock announcement came just hours after Putin unveiled a package of reforms which could help him stay in power after his term ends in 2024. Putin wants to shift power from the presidency to the PM - which would weaken his successor and allow him to pull the strings as prime minister with no term limits.

Hate for the Jewish community and law enforcement were the twin motives behind a deadly December attack at a New Jersey kosher supermarket by a pair of suspects who were armed to the teeth and possessed a homemade bomb powerful enough to maim people five football fields away, authorities said. Updating the public on its investigation, federal prosecutors and FBI officials said suspects David Anderson and Francine Graham, who were both killed in a gun battle with police, may have been forced to alter their initial attack plans when Det. Joseph Seals recognized their van was wanted in connection with an unsolved homicide in nearby Bayonne, New Jersey, and confronted them, officials said.

FBI releases video from deadly armed home invasion hoping someone. The #FBI is seeking information about the individuals who carried out an armed home invasion and murder on November 5, 2019, at approximately 11:12 p.m. in the vicinity of SW 222 Street and SW 99 Avenue in Cutler Bay, Florida. The victim, Daniel J. Macko, 31, was home with his wife and an acquaintance when a Dodge Ram van was noticed parked near their driveway. Macko’s wife left the residence to run an errand and upon her return while still outside, she was rushed by several subjects who emerged from the van. Alerted by the commotion, Macko opened the door to see what was happening. The subjects then entered and ransacked the residence looking for something. They departed only after announcing that they had found “it.” (as overheard by the acquaintance) Macko was shot several times and died at the scene.
Three civilians were arrested at Hawaii's Joint Base Pearl-Harbor-Hickam after a security guard spotted a live mortar round in a vehicle waiting to enter the main gate late Tuesday, military officials said. The guard at the main Nimitz Gate had ordered the vehicle to turn around when he detected the smell of marijuana and saw the ordnance in plain sight, according to spokesman Charles Anthony. The vehicle was attempting to enter the base without authorization, reported USA Today. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team safely removed the round that Anthony described as “an explosive device” and “a deadly weapon.” He said no firing device was found in the car and it is unknown how the men obtained the device.
