New images show damage caused by Iranian missile strike on US military base in Iraq as soldiers clear the compound. US troops were today clearing rubble and debris from a military base in Iraq which was attacked by Iranian missiles last week at the height of the Middle East crisis. The barrage on the Ain al-Asad base in Iraq left huge craters in the ground and damaged military trailers in the compound. New pictures which were released today showed bulldozers and fork-lift trucks clearing rubble from an area the size of a football stadium. No US soldiers were killed or seriously harmed in the missile attack, but the high tensions prompted a disastrous error by Iran's Revolutionary Guards who shot down a passenger plane just hours later with 176 people on board.

The five largest US carriers are not protecting customers from SIM-swap attacks, according to a new study, Mail Online reports. Researchers at Princeton University contacted AT&T, T-Mobile, Tracfone, US Mobile and Verizon Wireless and found they all used ‘insecure authentication challenges that could be easily subverted by attackers’. Out of 50 SIM swap attempts, 39 of them were successful just by simply by telling representatives they had forgotten the answers to the security questions. The team noted that they had repeatedly given incorrect answers, but were still permitted to switch to a different SIM in a smartphone. ⚠️

The shooting carried out by a Saudi aviation student at Naval Air Station Pensacola in December was an "act of terrorism," Attorney General William Barr said Monday as officials released their findings from their investigation into the attack. Barr said the gunman, identified as Royal Saudi Air Force 2nd Lt. Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, was "motivated by jihadist ideology." His comments came as the U.S. was expelling 21 Saudi nationals living in America who, like Alshamrani, trained with the U.S. military at facilities including NAS Pensacola. "During the course of the investigation, we learned that the shooter posted a message on September 11, [2019] stating, ‘the countdown has begun,’" Barr said. "During the Thanksgiving weekend, he then visited the 9/11 Memorial in New York City. "He also posted other anti-American, anti-Israeli and jihadi messages on social media, including two hours before his attack," Barr added.
