The District Attorney in Boston says the three deaths of a woman and two young children at a parking garage on Christmas Day were apparently the results of a double murder-suicide. 40 year-old Erin Pascal, her daughter, 4-year-old Allison, and her son, 1-year-old Andrew were all pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe the mother threw the children to their deaths before jumping herself. โI want to extend my sincere condolences to this family,โ Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins said. โYesterday, the unspeakable happened.โ โFor a parent to come to a place in which they harm their children in this way indicates their mental health struggles were severe and need of immediate supports,โ Rollins said. Two other suicides have occurred at the location in the past 7 months.

Southern California slammed by winter snow storm, stranding holiday travelers; system now heads east. Holiday travelers in Southern California were hit with a blustery winter storm Thursday that saw the shutdown of major highways and at least one death as forecasters now warn that the system is picking up strength as it heads to the Central Plains and Upper Midwest. A 60-year-old woman died in San Diego County at around 6:50 a.m after the vehicle she was a passenger in lost control and veered off the road into an embankment. The victim, who was not wearing a seatbelt and in the back seat, was thrown forward into the windshield and pronounced dead on the scene. Traffic was at a standstill after heavy snowfall shut down the busy Interstate 5 in Tejon Pass through the mountains north of Los Angeles and stopped traffic on Interstate 15 over Cajon Pass in the inland region to the east.โ๏ธ

Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam will have much to apologize for if he signs into law a bill that attacks Virginia citizens' Second Amendment rights. The measure is Senate Bill 16, which would ban "assault" firearms and certain firearm magazines. Since Democrats have seized control of Virginia's General Assembly in the last election, they are likely to push hard for strict gun control laws. Those laws will have zero impact on Virginia's criminals and a heavy impact on Virginia's law-abiding citizens who own, or intend to own, semi-automatic weapons for hunting or their protection. As a friend once explained to me, "I carry a gun because I can't carry a cop."
