WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT! NSW Police, Australia, said Rana Elasmar, 31, who was 38 weeks pregnant, was with her friends at a Parramatta cafe on Wednesday night when a 43-year-old man approached her table in west Sidney. CCTV footage showed the man having a brief conversation with the group before lunging over the table and repeatedly punching the face of Ms Elasmar, who then fell to the ground. He is then seen stomping at her head before other patrons at the cafe intervene and pull him away from her. Police said the man was not known to the women and they were investigating if the attack was racially motivated, ABC reports.

An Arizona police K-9 was fatally shot while trying to catch a fleeing suspect who was later found dead, authorities said. Investigators were trying to nab Joe Ruelas, a 38-year-old man wanted for aggravated assault, around 5:20 p.m. on Friday when he apparently tried making a run for it. A K-9 with the El Mirage Police Department, named Koki, was unleashed and tried to capture Ruelas on foot, KSAZ-TV reported. But during the pursuit, Ruelas shot Koki, officials said. Two police officers fired back at Ruelas, who ran out of sight. He was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police. Paul Marzocca, police chief in El Mirage, said the beloved K-9 was "killed in the line of duty tonight protecting other officers from harm." 😒 #K9
Two boys sitting in a van in a parking lot of a Northern California elementary school were fatally shot early Saturday, police said. Police did not identify the boys, ages 11 and 14, who were confronted in the parking lot of Searles Elementary School in Union City, about 30 miles outside San Francisco, reported USA Today. Reports of gunshots in the area came in to 911 dispatchers. The 14-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 11-year-old died en route to the hospital, the Union City Police Department said in a news release. The department called the shooting a "tragic incident" in its statement and said it was looking into the motive. No arrests have been made, nor do police have a description of the suspect or suspects, the department said.

A pilot was rescued Saturday after his small-engine plane became entangled in high-voltage power lines in Minnesota, officials said. Thomas Koskovich, 65, was flying his Piper Cub south when he became trapped in the wires in Scott County around 4 p.m., the Scott County Sheriff's Office said. Authorities said they received a 911 call about a plane dangling upside-down in the air in Louisville Township. Power to the wires was shut off, and rescuers near Shakopee worked to free the pilot, the sheriff's office said in a news release. Koskovich, who was the sole occupant of the plane, was not injured in the accident. β€œThis incident could have been much worse,” Sheriff Luke Hennen said in a statement. β€œWe are grateful the pilot was able to walk away without any injuries.”
