Texas Democrat accused of cocaine possession in arrest warrant, surrenders, Fox News reports. A prominent member of the Texas State Legislature turned himself in Thursday after an arrest warrant was issued accusing him of dropping an envelope containing small plastic bags of cocaine at an Austin airport in September. Rep. Poncho Nevarez, D-Eagle Pass, was arrested, fingerprinted, photographed and then released, with bond set at $10,000, according to the Austin American-Statesman. β€œI do not have anyone to blame but myself,” he said. β€œI accept this because it is true and it will help me get better. The Democrat chairs the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee in the Texas House, which is in recess until January 2021.

John Bel Edwards has been re-elected as Louisiana governor, marking a bitter blow to President Donald Trump who publicly endorsed GOP rival Eddie Rispone. The shock victory was declared late Saturday night, after the President used the runoff election in the Deep South as a test of his own popularity and political prowess heading into the 2020 presidential race. Trump made three trips to Louisiana in the past five weeks to rally for Rispone (pictured together at far left, and he took to Twitter several times on Saturday encouraging Louisianans to head to the polls and turn the state red. However, the Commander-in-chief's pleas weren't enough to get the GOP contender over the line, with Edwards narrowly clinching victory with 51% of the vote. The Democrat took to the stage shortly after 10pm to address his jubilant supporters. Edwards took a conciliatory tone in his victory speech, even asking God to 'bless Trump's soul', despite the fact the President had vigorously campaigned against him.
