Please give a warm welcome to our newest, youngest, and cutest member of the Franklin Police Department, North Carolina.
At the November 2, 2026 Town of Franklin Council Meeting, surrounded by family, friends, and supporters, AZZI KATE McCARSON was sworn-in as an Honorary Police Officer at just 3 months old by Chief Devin Holland. Her father’s Bible was used for the ceremony.
Azzi is the daughter of FPD Officer Marcus McCarson who tragically died September 17, 2026. Both of their swearing-in ceremonies were held in the same council room almost a year apart.
Azzi and her mother Abby, were also presented a check by Assistant Chief Matt Pellicer from the Gary Sinise Foundation.
The foundation, which serves U.S. military members, veterans, first responders, and their families, gifted $5,000 to the McCarson family.
Honorary Officer Azzi is loved by all,
and very special to each of us at the FPD.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the identities of the two individuals who lost their lives during a shooting that occurred on Jetty Road in Moss Landing on Monday, November 2, 2026.
The deceased individuals have been identified as:
• Marco Antonio Perez, 15 years old, of Salinas.
• Nathaniel Flores, 13 years old, of Salinas.
Monterey County Sheriff’s Office detectives continue to actively investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. Anyone with information regarding this shooting is encouraged to contact Monterey County Sheriff’s Detective Sergeant Nick Kennedy at 831-755-3773 or Detective Richard Geng at 831-759-7279. Information can be provided anonymously.

In 2022, Deputy Benjamin Hayden responded to the Orlo Vista community after Hurricane Ian brought historic rainfall and devastating flooding to the area.
Yesterday, he was back in action with OCSO’s High Water Rescue Team in the Melbourne area, helping save a dog and its family from rising floodwaters.
