Weslaco firefighters Johnny Peña, 43, and Julia Rocha, 21, were identified as the two people who died Wednesday in what officials called an off-duty incident. City and police officials have not released more details, and the deaths are still under investigation.

The Weslaco Fire Department is mourning the loss of two of its own, Johnny Peña, 43, and Julia Rocha, 21, who both lost their lives on Wednesday in what officials described as an off-duty incident.

Their passing came on National First Responders Day, a day meant to honor people who dedicate their lives to protecting others. Instead of celebrating, their fellow firefighters were left grieving two people they deeply cared about.

Rest easy. Prayers for their family of red and blood.🙏🏻
