Welcome Home, Pvt. Charles E. Thomas 🫡
Our hero made his final journey home, from Hawaii, through Dallas, Texas, and at last to his family in California. Pvt. Thomas is a hometown hero of Ontario, California, and after more than 84 years, he is finally home to be laid to rest.
He entered the U.S. Army Air Forces in California and served with the 7th Chemical Company, 31st Infantry Regiment, in the Philippines. After American forces surrendered the Bataan Peninsula on April 9, 1942, he was taken prisoner and forced to endure the Bataan Death March.
He d!3d at Cabanatuan Prison Camp on July 5, 1942, and was buried in a communal grave alongside fellow American POWs.
On May 19, 2026, DPAA announced that Pvt. Thomas had been identified. He has been posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, and the Prisoner of War Medal, among other honors.

BREAKING: CATASTROPHIC FLOODING EXPECTED ALONG THE SAN JUAN RIVER, UTAH
The Navajo Police Department shared an urgent Sunday morning update warning of catastrophic flooding along the San Juan River from Four Corners to Mexican Hat.
The National Weather Service in Grand Junction forecasts the river will exceed record levels near Mexican Hat, reaching an estimated 36 feet by 5 p.m. Sunday.
Law enforcement and emergency responders are working around the clock in continuing to evacuate the local community. Keeping the roads clear allows for our team to respond safely and quickly

•Highway 162, east of Montezuma Creek
•Aneth Bridge (also known as the Texaco Road/Philips Camp Road Bridge) at Milepost 22, going westbound.
•Navajo Route 35, south of Montezuma Creek
•Possibly another road closure will be announced, west of Montezuma Creek, after a small local bridge in the area is evaluated

Six years after losing her father, a South Carolina deputy says she has found him again — as she wears the same badge he wore before he was killed in the line of duty.
Sgt. Conley Jumper with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office was killed in the line of duty in October 2020 during a traffic stop on Interstate 85. He left behind a wife and a daughter who once planned to become a lawyer.
Now, his daughter wears her father’s badge.
