A South Jersey police officer is hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a suspected drunk driver during a traffic stop, according to authorities.
Middle Township Patrolman Austin Kapurelos was conducting a motor vehicle stop on Route 47 South (Wildwood Boulevard) shortly after 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, when a vehicle struck him.
First responders provided immediate emergency medical aid at the scene. Kapurelos was transported to AtlantiCare Medical Center with serious injuries, where officials said he is in critical but stable condition.

NEW: Four people, including a 9-year-old student, were injured after an off-duty police officer crashed his patrol car into the back of a stopped school bus in Marion County, Florida. The officer suffered serious injuries, according to state troopers.

The crash happened shortly before 7 a.m. at the intersection of Southwest 49th Avenue Road and Southwest 82nd Place Road, according to FHP.
The school bus was stopped with its lights and stop signs activated as children prepared to board when the Gainesville police officer's Ford Explorer struck the back of the bus, authorities said.
FHP said there were 14 people aboard: 12 students, a 37-year-old bus driver and a 54-year-old bus aide. A 9-year-old student, the driver and the aide were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

NEW: Hernando Mississippi police officer injured after head-on collision with reckless driver.

The incident began when multiple callers reported a reckless driver heading southbound on I-55. Reports also said that the driver struck a guardrail in Southaven, was traveling on the median, and nearly collided with multiple vehicles.
Hernando Police officers attempted to make a traffic stop near Commerce Street. The driver refused to stop, and a pursuit ensued.
During the pursuit, the suspect was traveling the wrong way down southbound lanes of I-55, resulting in a head-on collision with a Hernando Police officer.

A spokesperson for the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office says a Hernando police officer is being transported to Regional One Hospital for treatment.

NEW: Two stabbings were reported near the Taste of Soul festival in the Crenshaw area Saturday night, Los Angeles Police Department said.

Police said both the victim and the group of suspects fled the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.

A second stabbing was later reported near the event. The Los Angeles Fire Department said one person was transported to a hospital with possible stab wounds after officers responded to reports of a stabbing in the 4200 block of Crenshaw Boulevard.
Authorities have not said whether the two stabbings are related.
