NEW: A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper was injured when his stopped cruiser was hit by a vehicle along Interstate 85 on Sunday morning.

The crash happened while the trooper was stopped at the scene of a previous crash on I-85 south near Exit 163 in Orange County.

The crash involved a driver traveling at least 60 mph while colliding with the rear of the trooper’s vehicle, according to unconfirmed emergency reports from the scene.

Following the collision, the trooper was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but there was no word on the severity of the trooper’s injuries. Another person was also transported to a hospital from the scene following the crash.

NEW: Somebody walked up to a postal truck in broad daylight in Sacramento and drove off with trays of mail — and officials say ballots may have been in the mix.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the College Glen neighborhood. Video shows a man in a gray SUV opening the back of the truck and taking the trays. A neighbor watched it happen. U.S. Postal Inspector Jonathan Lanning told KCRA that mail was stolen and “there may have been ballots affected.”

Sacramento County had just mailed out ballots with Election Day coming up. Local resident Mary Brown said she checked her informed-mail notice and was supposed to get ballots for her great-grandchildren that day. They never showed.

The Postal Inspection Service is offering up to $100,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Tip line is 1-877-876-2455.
