We are heartbroken to share that Firefighter Andrew Brokes died in the line of duty yesterday morning while searching for victims inside the building at 410 Marly Drive.
Firefighter Brokes, who joined the Durham Fire Department on May 5, 2025, served the Durham community with dedication, courage, and a deep commitment to the residents of the Bull City.
“This is a heartbreaking loss for our department, the family, and the entire community,” said Durham Fire Chief Robert J. Zoldos II. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and his colleagues, and we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this unimaginably difficult time. The department is standing with and supporting his family in every possible way.”
Rest In Peace, Hero💔🖤
Two other firefighters were injured during the incident and were taken to Duke Medical Center. Both have received care and are expected to make full recoveries.🙏🏻

This is NYPD Detective Jose Mercedes. He was stabbed SEVEN times while off duty by two illegal Dominicans.
This happened last week. Two miles away from the ICE shooting yesterday.
This is not a story NYC Dems care about.
Keep him in mind when you hear those same Democrats demand that ICE be abolished.

The cooldown has arrived, with Tropical Storm Rachel bringing high surf and a coastal flood advisory through Tuesday.
NorCal forecast: Delta Breeze, cooler air arrives today. While high temperatures will still run unseasonably warm today, an onshore wind will strengthen late in the day to mark the start of a welcome cooling trend.

ICYMI: Authorities conduct sweeping crackdown in L.A.'s Skid Row
Los Angeles police assisted with a large-scale federal crackdown on drug dealers in Skid Row and other areas that resulted in over 20 arrests Thursday morning.
Bill Essayli: "This morning we executed 28 arrest warrants and 44 search warrants for federal drug trafficking offenses involving fentanyl, PCP, and other narcotics in and around Skid Row.
Drug dealers prey on the homeless, keeping them addicted to horrific drugs and collecting their government assistance money in exchange. It’s all about making money. That ends today.
This was a massive joint operation between the HSTaskForce and LAPD. Over 300 law enforcement officers participated. More details at our 1 p.m. PSD press conference."

BREAKING A Judge just blocked the deportation of the Bronx ICE target:
A federal judge has blocked the deportation of Oscar Bergal, the man shot by an ICE officer during a targeted enforcement operation in the Bronx Thursday.
DHS describes Bergal as an illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic with a grand larceny conviction and associations with the Trinitarios gang.
In an order issued Friday, Judge J. Paul Oetken ruled Bergal cannot be removed from the United States without another court order while his petition challenging his detention is pending.
The judge also restricted transfers—allowing him to be moved only to facilities within the Southern or Eastern Districts of New York, or the District of New Jersey, without further court approval.
DHS says Bergal was transferred to an detention outside of New York due to his criminal history and flight risk.
The order does not direct his release. It remains in effect unless the judge assigned to the case changes or lifts it.

WATCH IN FULL: President Donald J. Trump hosts celebration honoring Columbus Day
POTUS: "We have a big announcement coming up on diesel." 👀
"In 1492, Christopher Columbus undertook one of the boldest voyages in the history of our planet... He push onward and discovered the New World, eventually leading to the creation of the most exceptional nation in the history of the [world]."
"We're giving a man the death penalty who killed 14 soldiers... Death penalty through firing squad — and he deserves it. He killed and wounded many, many people. A maniac."
POTUS: "American Patriots have always revered and respected this great Italian explorer... Yet, as you know, the Radical Left communists hate Columbus and they want to abolish Columbus Day."
"In NYC, officials recently released a map showing ethnic communities in our nation's largest city. The map includes Little Senegal, Little Guyana, Little Haiti, Little Yemen — but it does NOT include a place called Little Italy, an unthinkable omission... A disgrace."

Being a Texas State Trooper can be a Hoot! 🦉
DPS’ mission to protect and serve doesn’t always involve people – sometimes our wildlife need a helping hand, too.
Yesterday on patrol, Trooper Raymond Torres found an injured owl in the center median along I-10 near Van Horn. Trooper Torres looked after the owl until TPWD arrived to transport him to the elpasozoo, where he is receiving medical care.
As a Trooper, you never know what each day will bring. Moments like this remind us why strong partnerships with other state agencies and the community are so important.
