The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office TN is saddened to announce the passing of retired Sergeant Dan Goodwin, a longtime member of the Rutherford County law enforcement community whose career in public service spanned more than four decades. Sgt. Goodwin passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026.

Sgt. Goodwin’s career was marked by a commitment to service, communication, and the communities he served. From his service in the United States Air Force, to his years in journalism and education, and ultimately his distinguished career with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, he dedicated much of his life to serving others.

Throughout his years with the Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Goodwin earned the respect and admiration of his fellow law enforcement officers, colleagues, and members of the community."

A true team effort in a recent search for a missing little boy.

Prince George’s County Police Patrol officers, Missing Persons Unit detectives, and members of the Special Operations Division’s K9 Section spent hours in a desperate search for the child who wandered away from his home. Officers and K9s scoured for miles in the child’s neighborhood, behind houses and into heavily-wooded areas. Even after the sun set, these dedicated officers didn’t give up -  until they found the little boy safely – just feet from a busy roadway.

LASD Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) Captain Royster and SEB Dive Team Deputy Twedt met with the media today to provide an inside look at SEB's Dive Team's role in the October 1, 2026, Catalina helicopter recovery operation. Deputy Twedt discussed the challenging underwater recovery, the specialized training, equipment, and preparation required to conduct deep-water search and recovery operations.
The SEB Dive Team trains extensively and is equipped to navigate some of the most challenging conditions.
Through the dedication, expertise, and collaboration of LASD and our partnering agencies, the remaining missing victim was successfully recovered on October 1, 2026.
We extend our sincere appreciation to every agency, team, and professional who contributed their time, resources, and expertise throughout this operation. This recovery was a true example of agencies working together with a shared commitment to bringing closure to those affected.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is announcing a public visitation service for Trooper Bradley Ritger will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 3-8 p.m. at Chippewa Valley Bible Church in Chippewa Falls. All law enforcement agencies and community members are welcome.

On Saturday, October 10, a private visitation and funeral service with law enforcement honors will take place for close family, friends and invited law enforcement only. There will not be a law enforcement procession or burial service.

WATCH: Two large semi truck tires came loose from a FedEx truck near N 5600 W and W Amelia Earhart Dr, just west of Salt Lake City Utah International Airport.

Video captures the tires rolling into the intersection and striking two vehicles stopped at a red light.
