NEW: On August 11 at approximately 2:48 a.m., Edgar Duarte was operating a moped when he ran a red light and entered an intersection, nearly causing a crash with Officer B. Morillon, who had the green light.

Duarte continued to rack up charges when he refused to stop for Officer Morillon and attempted to flee. His getaway came to an end when his moped met its match, a trash can and a mailbox.

Duarte then tried his luck on foot, where the trash can attempted to assist officers once again but unfortunately failed.

No worries, though. K9 Gambit was there to support. Gambit quickly caught up with Duarte, and he was taken into custody.

As a reminder, mopeds are still subject to Georgia traffic laws. Riders must be at least 15 years old and have a valid driver’s license, instructional permit or limited permit. A DOT approved motorcycle helmet is required, and moped operators must follow the same traffic laws as other drivers, including obeying traffic signals.

A Biden-appointed federal judge ruled that Congress has no authority to bar noncitizens from voting in federal elections, tossing out charges against a woman originally from Jamaica who voted in the 2020 presidential election despite not being a U.S. citizen.

U.S. District Judge David Leibowitz dismissed the case against Chelsea Cox, declaring the 1996 federal law criminalizing noncitizen voting unconstitutional. His reasoning: the Constitution gives states — not Congress — the power to set voter qualifications.

It is with profound sadness that the Wisconsin State Patrol announce the line-of-duty death of Trooper Bradley Ritger at the age of 29.

On September 21, 2026, Trooper Ritger was responding to a traffic pursuit when he deployed a tire deflation device on a bridge deck west of the Dunn County/Eau Claire County line. As he moved to a position of cover, he fell from the bridge onto the roadway below. Despite lifesaving efforts and critical medical care, Trooper Ritger succumbed to his injuries on October 2, 2026.

Trooper Ritger joined the WSP as a member of the 67th Recruit Class. He served in the Northwest Region for nearly five years, primarily in the Dunn County area. During his career, he attained certifications as a general law enforcement instructor, mobile field force team member and squad leader, and salvage vehicle inspector. Prior to his service with the WSP Trooper Ritger served with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for three years.

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: Three people were transported to the hospital Friday night after a shooting in downtown Las Vegas, police say.

Officials with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the shooting happened at 10:17 p.m. near Charleston Boulevard and Main Street.

Police say a teen has died and two others are being treated for gunshot wound injuries.

On October 3, 1977, Deputy Lynn Lewis, 35, assigned to Lynwood Station, was en route back from assisting at a chief of police conference where he served in a support capacity when he lost control of his vehicle on the San Bernardino Freeway near Lark Ellen Avenue in West Covina and crashed into a pole.

Lewis who was a deputy for six years, also served as a policeman for the Rochester, New York Police Department before joining the LASD.
