On September 25, 1978, Firestone Station Deputies Thomas “Tom” Fonte and Robert “Bob” Braman responded to a devastating fire at the Waymire Drum Manufacturing Company in Walnut Park. With approximately 40 workers trapped inside, the deputies repeatedly entered the smoke-filled, toxic building, carrying unconscious workers to safety. Their courage and selflessness saved numerous lives.

Both deputies suffered severe smoke inhalation and were later awarded the Medal of Valor for their heroic actions.

Deputy Fonte endured years of medical complications from his exposure and ultimately contracted AIDS following a contaminated blood transfusion during surgery. He passed away on October 2, 1990, at the age of 47. He was survived by his wife, Susan, and his children.

CAUGHT ON CAMERA: A 38-year-old tech executive was arrested outside his California company as federal prosecutors accuse him of helping smuggle more than $300 million in export-controlled computer servers to China.

Video captured Greg Lui being taken into custody in San Gabriel as agents surrounded him and searched his Cybertruck.

Prosecutors allege Lui and his co-conspirators routed high-end servers containing U.S.-made GPUs through countries including Malaysia and Singapore before illegally re-exporting them to China, all as the technology is subject to strict export controls because of its potential national security implications.

It is with heavy hearts that Sheriff Timothy R. Wilz and the entire Waupaca County Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office family share the passing of deputy Dennis Bonikowske.

"Dennis began serving the Sheriff’s Office in March 1996. For more than 30 years, Dennis faithfully served and supported the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office as a Reserve Deputy, Captain of the Reserve Deputy Program, and later by helping maintain the Sheriff’s Office Annex.

Dennis was always willing to lend a hand and remained a familiar and appreciated presence within our Sheriff’s Office family."

Rest Easy Brother. Prayers for his family of blue and blood.🙏🏻

A legacy of service that spans generations.

For 27 years, Joni Burgler proudly served with Phoenix PD, becoming the first female officer to serve on the department’s Dive Team.

Now, her grandsons are carrying that legacy forward - one proudly wearing the Phoenix PD badge and the other currently in the academy.

The legacy continues.

The FBI will never forget the horrific attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7, 2023 – and we will never stop our efforts to cut off funding to Hamas terrorists,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “These subjects allegedly engaged in a conspiracy that extended beyond national borders to funnel money to Hamas and fuel violent attacks, using cryptocurrency to try to hide their criminal activity. Today's announcement shows the abilities of this FBI and our interagency partners to follow the money and shut down resources going to terrorists under the guise of charitable giving - disrupting over 4,000 foreign terrorist organization related disruptions and arrests here at home and around the world since last year. Special thanks to our FBI New York, New Orleans, and Tampa Field Offices, our Counterterrorism Division, as well as the Paris Legal Attaché's Office and French authorities for their outstanding work with us in this case.

UPDATE: OC DA Todds Pitzer just threw the book at the woman arrested for purposely fatally crushing a puppy with her vehicle in Santa Ana, CA. 75-year-old Hahn Nguyen has now been charged felony animal cruelty and felony animal abuse a felony enhancement for personal use of a weapon.

Spitzer is charging these wobbler offenses as felonies instead of misdemeanors and the felony enhancement will add potential prison time.

“This act of violence not only ended the life of an innocent puppy, but it also inflicted trauma on every single person who came across the video footage of the murder of an animal. Violence is not a singular act. It inflicts pain and suffering on those who are subjected to it and on those who witness it. As the elected District Attorney of Orange County, I refuse to accept a society in which violence of any kind is acceptable. Let me be clear that those who engage in violence in Orange County, whether it is against human beings or animals, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent.”
