NEW: Former Okaloosa County Sheriffβs Office deputy Eddie Duran has been found not guilty of manslaughter for the shooting death of Air Force Airman Roger Fortson in May of 2024.
A jury on Thursday, Oct.1, returned the verdict in the case of the deadly shooting at an apartment complex in Fort Walton Beach. Deputies at the time said they were responding to a domestic disturbance in the same complex, but not at Fortsonβs apartment.
Duran went to Fortsonβs apartment and knocked several times before Fortson opened the door with the gun in his hand. Duran quickly fired five shots, killing the airman.
Duran argued that he was fearful for his life when he saw the gun in Fortsonβs hand, though the gun was by his side and pointed at the floor.

WATCH IN FULL: President Donald J. Trump speaks to reporters after landing in Texas earlier this afternoon.
POTUS: "We have the best numbers of any President in history... We don't get a fair shake from the media."
POTUS: "Iran will very soon be ending β one way or the other."
Q: "You've been critical of CNN and the other media outletsβ"
POTUS: "They're terrible."
Q: What do you say to those who say you're using your power to go after opponents?
POTUS: "I don't think I've used it at all. If you look at Obama, what he did was far worse." π―
POTUS: "If the Democrats get in, we will end up in a financial depression. We will go into a depression the likes of which we've never seen before. It'll be 1929 β that's my opinion. They're grossly incompetent. They have no idea what they're doing."

To the Great People of Oklahoma, stay tuned β Iβll be there soon! There was a major weather delay, and the planes and helicopters were not able to land, so weβre driving up from Texas. They wanted me to postpone the event, and I said, βNO WAY, IβM GOING TO OKLAHOMA!β βThe Beastβ is going faster than it has ever gone before. It wonβt be long. I love you all! βIt is critical that Seattle employees are paid accurately and on time.
Since the City implemented its new payroll system more than two years ago, SPOG has repeatedly raised concerns about inaccuracies in our members' pay, including underpayments that remain unresolved. SPOG members, along with other City employees, have also filed a class action lawsuit related to inaccurate pay and underpayment concerns. Now, the City has acknowledged another significant payroll error affecting hundreds of SPOG members.
SPOG members did not create these discrepancies, and they should be able to rely on the City to accurately calculate their wages.
We look forward to working with the City to carefully review these discrepancies, verify the accuracy of every affected member's pay, address outstanding underpayments, and ensure that any resolution is handled fairly and in accordance with our collective bargaining agreement and Washington law. Our members deserve an accurate paycheck and a payroll system they can trust.β

One More Wave. A Tribute to CHP Officer Brian Liles. End of Watch September 28, 2026.
Officer Brian Liles dedicated more than sixteen years of his life to serving the people of California with the California Highway Patrol.
On September 28, 2026, Officer Liles was killed in the line of duty while serving in the Visalia Area.
Brian served in San Jose, Hayward, Fresno, and Visalia during his career and was recognized as the 2024 Visalia Area Officer of the Year. After completing CHP motorcycle training, he became one of the first motorcycle officers assigned to the Visalia Area.
But beyond the uniform and the accomplishments, Brian was a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a friend, and a neighbor remembered for his smile and the simple wave he gave to those around him.

ABSOLUTELY TRAGIC:
A student at Benjamin Franklin High School in Highland Park jumped to his death after being attacked and chased out of a classroom. It appears the kid who punched the victim then followed him out of the class where the victim is seen jumping over the railing of a 4th floor balcony.
Do you think is the LA teacherβs union UTLA didnβt remove LAUSD PD school officers from campus this would have happened? Teachers are not meant to be security guards or police officers. And the question lingers: who will be held responsible?

Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Randy Tifft says five deputies are on the mend after two traffic incidents in less than 24 hours.
Three of the SRSO deputies were hospitalized after being hit by a fleeing suspect, and two were injured in a collision while they were assisting at the scene of a traffic crash.
Tifft said all three deputies were released from the hospital, but two of them will not be back at work for an undetermined amount of time.
Tifft told the News Journal that two other deputies with the department were injured in a traffic-related accident the evening of Sept. 28.
