Happening Now: Jewish Students Rally and Pray Outside Gracie Mansion Against Antisemitism

Jewish day school students gathered Friday morning on East 88th Street outside Gracie Mansion, where they held Shacharit, the Jewish morning prayer service.

Organizers said the gathering was held in response to recent attacks against Jewish people in New York City. They cited a July stabbing outside an Upper West Side synagogue and an August assault involving a congregant and a security guard during Sabbath services at Central Synagogue.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani was not present at the gathering. Earlier in the week, Mamdani said he welcomed the group, that space outside Gracie Mansion was available to them, and that he expected to be elsewhere in the city at the time of the event.

Please, keep the Hancock Sheriff's Office and K-9 Cato's handler in your thoughts and prayers.

An Illinois sheriff's office K-9 died from a neck injury during a training exercise Wednesday.

Cato, a K-9 with the Hancock Sheriff's Office, and her handler, Deputy Milo Koechle, were participating in training at a grade school in Niota when the canine struck a glass door, the agency stated in a news release posted on social media. She suffered a serious neck injury and was rushed to a veterinary hospital in Iowa, where she later died.

"Throughout her service, Cato played an important role in supporting our deputies and serving the citizens of Hancock County," the sheriff's office stated. "Her dedication, loyalty, and service will not be forgotten."

VP in Council Bluffs: "I want to start by thanking the men and women who serve our country in two ways. The first is that today marks POW/MIA Recognition Day — and the second is the birthday of the U.S. Air Force."

"This is our heritage... Your family, for generations, did not build up this land, till this land, put their sweat and blood into this land, so that it could be bought and sold by somebody who never set foot on it."

"For 42 years, I have heard Democrats promise to take on Big Pharma and lower the cost of prescription drugs, but do absolutely nothing. Then I saw President Trump actually do it — and that's why we've seen the fastest drop in prescription drugs in 60 years."
