Police in Chile have been filmed firing pellets at protesters kneeling down with their hands up as the attempt to restore order after a week of demonstrations. Video posted on Twitter shows officers driving armoured vehicles towards activists blocking a road in capital Santiago before opening fire in an attempt to clear them. What began as demonstrations against increased transport fares has spiralled into a week-long outcry against social inequality, largely targeted at President Sebastian Pinera, a billionaire businessman.
Fentanyl is driving up drug overdose deaths in the US but, in nearly half of the country, methamphetamine is the biggest killer, a new report reveals. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics, fentanyl was associated with nearly 39 percent of all drug overdose deaths in 2017. That's an increase from 2016 when fentanyl, the synthetic opioid 100 times stronger than morphine, was responsible for 29 percent of all fatal overdoses. The report is based on 2017 figures when there were more than 70,000 overdose deaths in the US, two-thirds of them involving opioids. However, there was a clear geographic divide. Fentanyl was most likely to be involved in fatal overdoses in eastern US states, while meth was the most likely to be linked to overdose in the western half of the nation ☠️

The girls were all injured, one critically, but all are expected to survive.
It was a perilous scene for one window washer, who was ultimately rescued from his platform several floors above an Edmonton, Alberta office building Friday. A witness captured the uneasy video, as the platform hits the building four times in a span of several seconds. But it was when it struck Stantec Tower building the final time that gasps can be heard. The window washer falls from the scaffolding and is seen dangling by his fingers with vehicular traffic below, as his harness kept him from falling. The man was pulled, albeit delicately, from the dangerous situation as firefighters used a bucket truck to bring him to safety. He was not injured. #fuck_lucky

Los Angeles area residents ran for their lives on Thursday evening as wildfires, whipped up by strong winds, reached residential neighborhoods, forcing 50,000 evacuations and burning six homes. Two blazes are threatening LA, while another has taken hold in…
Pacific Gas & Electric says up to 2.1 million people in Northern and Central California could lose power in the largest planned power shutoff in the region. The utility said it has notified about 850,000 customers in 36 counties that it may cut off power between 6 and 10 p.m. Saturday to prevent wildfires. The outages may last until midday Monday. California Governor Gavin Newsom slammed PG&E's 'years and years of greed' on Friday after the utility company admitted its electrical equipment may have ignited a ruinous wildfire that spread across California's wine country. PG&E made the stark admission despite blackouts imposed across the region to prevent blazes. And Newsom, who had earlier declared a state of emergency for Sonoma and Los Angeles counties, told a news conference: 'We should not have to be here. Years and years of greed, years and years of mismanagement in the utilities, in particularly PG&E.πŸ”₯

Devastating footage has captured the exact moment California's Kincade fire was sparked and it shows the flames turning into a blazing inferno in just a matter of minutes. The clip begins with a bright white spot on the horizon shortly after 9:20pm on Wednesday. It quickly grows before suddenly exploding into huge flames. The fire had devastated 10,000-acres by morning and has since gone on to destroy nearly 22,000 acres, according to officials. Cameras from the University of Nevada and the University of Oregon are set up to help fire crews locate and respond to fires faster. The flames appear to shoot up in the air after being fueled by winds of more than 70 miles per hour. πŸ”₯ #wtf
