TUCSON, Ariz. — Authorities are searching for two suspects after a deadly shooting in Pima County left a 23-year-old Tucson Police Department recruit dead and a current corrections officer injured early Wednesday morning, August 19, 2026.
According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to a home in the 7700 block of South Enchanted Spring Drive, near Valencia Road and State Route 86/Ajo Highway, shortly after 6 a.m. following reports of a shooting.
When deputies arrived, they found Carlos Ramirez, 23, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ramirez was a member of the Tucson Police Department's Basic Recruit Class 26-1 and had previously served as a corrections officer with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
Ramirez had completed 23 weeks of law enforcement training at the Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Training Center and was scheduled to graduate from the academy on August 27, 2026.

Deputy Rickman suffered a medical emergency on Saturday and, despite efforts to save his life, he passed away this morning.
Deputy Rickman, 56, served with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for the past two years. His connection to the Office began long before he became a deputy. For eight years, Rickman was a valued member of Franklin County Fleet Management, where he worked alongside and built relationships with many members of the Sheriff’s Office. He often spoke about his desire to serve, protect, and be a part of the brotherhood he had known through his military service.

A Valley Mills Police officer was injured after responding to a domestic violence call. The suspect is in custody.
Chief Michael Hamilton issued a statement on Tuesday morning regarding an active law enforcement scene. The officer has since been transported to a nearby medical facility to receive medical treatment.
The suspect has been transported to a hospital for clearance and will then be transferred to the Bosque County Jail. Personnel from the Bosque County Sheriff’s Office and the Clifton Police Department remain on the scene to complete the investigation.
The officer has since been treated and back on duty after cleared by a doctor.

Officer Ramirez was assigned to Detective Support and Vice Division and proudly served the Los Angeles Police Department for 24 years. He leaves behind his wife, two daughters, and two sons.
A career in law enforcement is a commitment that extends far beyond the badge. It often means long hours, missed holidays, and precious time away from family, all in service to others and the community.
We extend our deepest condolences to Officer Ramirez’s family, friends, and LAPD colleagues. May they find comfort in knowing that his dedication and service will never be forgotten.
