It's been about 100 days since I retired as police chief after nearly 30 years in law enforcement.

A few things I've learned already: You don't realize how much stress you're carrying until you're no longer carrying it. The department moves on. The phone gets quieter. I miss the people, but I definitely don't miss the drama.

I put together some thoughts on what I've learned so far, including a few things I see very differently now that I'm no longer sitting in the chief's chair.

TRAIN DERAILMENT IN TEXAS: A woman was seriously injured Sunday morning after a train derailed in Collinsville and blocked both lanes of US 377.

Firefighters say a vehicle then crashed into the derailed train near County Line Church Road shortly before 5:20 a.m.

The driver was flown to Medical City Denton with serious injuries. US 377 was shut down through the area as crews worked the scene.

An investigation into the derailment is underway.

NEW: A Clifton New Jersey police officer was injured when a vehicle struck a patrol car on Route 21, causing both vehicles to catch fire.

A Passaic man was charged with driving while intoxicated and assault by auto after police say he struck two Clifton police vehicles on Route 21 early Sunday, injuring an officer and causing two vehicles to catch fire.
Three Clifton police officers were investigating a crash in the left lane of Route 21 North near River Road around 4 a.m. Two police vehicles were parked in the left lane to block traffic from the crash scene.

Police say a 2024 Acura MDX driven by 32-year-old Matthew Cancel approached in the left lane and struck both police vehicles.

One officer was inside one of the vehicles and suffered a head injury. Two other officers who were outside the vehicles narrowly avoided being struck, according to police. One of them was forced to dive over a concrete divider.

The mayor of Lawrence, Massachusetts, is accused of turning pandemic relief into his personal bailout!

Federal prosecutors say Brian DePeña obtained more than $1.5 MILLION in COVID-era Small Business Administration loans intended for his tire company. More than $880,000 allegedly went toward high-interest mortgages on properties he owned, another $90,000 allegedly entered his mayoral campaign account and additional money allegedly paid personal tax debts.

DePeña now faces one count of wire fraud and one count of money laundering. His attorney says he intends to fight the charges and has no plans to resign.

Pandemic assistance was supposed to rescue struggling businesses and protect American jobs. It was never supposed to become a politician’s mortgage fund, tax bailout or campaign piggy bank.

Before joining the Taunton Fire Department, Kyle proudly served his country as part of the United States Navy for 8 years.

His commitment to service continued as he dedicated himself to protecting and serving the Taunton community as a firefighter. He joined the Taunton Fire Department on April 13th, 2026.

EXPOSE HER! The half-sister of Michigan’s Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed is facing FELONY charges following an anti-ICE protest.

Prosecutors allege University of Chicago professor Eman Abdelhadi spat on an Illinois state trooper outside an ICE processing facility in Broadview. She was charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery against a government employee and two misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing an officer.

One day before her arrest, Abdelhadi accused ICE of “terrorizing our communities” and declared: “There’s no center left. You’re either resisting or you’re complicit.”

Her half-brother, Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, is now Michigan’s Democratic nominee for the United States Senate. He openly campaigns to abolish ICE, calls the agency “irredeemable” and claims abolishing it is the only safe path forward.

The movement screaming “resistance” at immigration officers is now fighting for power in the United States Senate. Michigan, PAY ATTENTION.
