NEW: U.S. Attorney James McDonald speaks moments after Luigi Mangione pleads guilty and admits to killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, laying out what prosecutors describe as careful preparation leading up to the murder. "This was not a spontaneousโฆ
GUILTY: Luigi Mangione pleaded guilty and acknowledged firing the shots that took Brian Thompsonโs life.
Mangione pleaded guilty to two federal stalking charges connected to his calculated plan to target the UnitedHealthcare CEO in Manhattan.
He admitted that he researched the companyโs investor conference, traveled to New York and used a gun component made with a 3D printer to carry out the attack.
There was NO plea deal, and Federal prosecutors say they will seek life in prison when he is sentenced on December 18.
Now his attorneys are using the federal plea to try to get his separate New York m*rder case dismissed under the stateโs double-jeopardy law.
Mangioneโs supporters spent nearly two years glorifying him, raising money for him and treating him like a celebrity. It's been sick to watch.
Is life in prison justice for taking a man's life in cold blood?

CAUGHT: A Kentucky woman accused of desecrating the World War II Memorial is now in custody and facing two federal felony charges.
Prosecutors allege that Melissa L. Farris spray-painted โClean Hands Dirty $โ across the memorial and poured soap into the fountain, covering the water with foam.
She reportedly recorded the vandalism herself and shared the footage online.
Farris has been charged with depredation against property of the United States and destruction of veteransโ memorials. Each offense is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Authorities had also arrested her for unlawfully camping on federal property only days before the memorial was vandalized.
This is a monument honoring 16 MILLION Americans who served during World War II and more than 400,000 who never came home.
They sacrificed everything to preserve our freedom. Their memorial should never be treated as a backdrop for vandalism and online attention.
Now Farris will have to answer for what prosecutors say she did.
There MUST be accountability.

EXCLUSIVE: The former chief of the U.S. Border Patrol says the Biden administrationโs border crisis was โvery intentional.โ
He served during the administrationโs first seven months and says officials shut down conversations about criminal and terrorist threats while directing agents to process as many people into the country as possible.
As overwhelmed agents handled massive groups, he says cartels exploited the chaos to move more dangerous people and contraband across the border undetected.
Agents knew what was happening. They warned leadership. Then they were forced to watch it continue.
The former chief says personnel were left feeling as though federal procedures were facilitating human smuggling rather than stopping it.
โIt was demoralizing.โ
Every American needs to hear his firsthand account! NEVER AGAIN.
