SHE WEIGHED ONLY 27 POUNDS AT SIX YEARS OLD. Now prosecutors want the de*th penalty for the guardian accused of starving her, restraining her with duct tape and forcing her to live inside a DOG CRATE.

Six-year-old Dominique Moody was found unresponsive inside an east Charlotte home on December 16, 2025.

Court records describe a little girl covered in open wounds, scars, old fractures and marks consistent with being restrained. This story is truly heartbreaking.

Other children allegedly told investigators that Dominique was kept inside a dog crate, left for extended periods in soiled diapers and denied food while others ate.
Authorities reportedly uncovered messages and photographs showing her bound with duct tape.

The home was infested with rats and filled with the odor of urine and feces. Police and social workers had reportedly been called to the address repeatedly before Dominique lost her life.

Tonya McKnight, Dominique’s aunt and legal guardian, is charged with first-degree mrder and multiple child-abuse offenses. Susan Robinson and Tery’n McKnight also face first-degree mrder charges.

Prosecutors are seeking the de*th penalty against Tonya McKnight. It is the first capital case pursued since Spencer Merriweather became Mecklenburg County district attorney.

Dominique was SIX YEARS OLD. The adults and systems responsible for protecting her allegedly failed again and again.

Justice MUST be served.
