Marcos Iriarte-Valdez was awaiting trial on residential burglary charges when authorities detained him for allegedly violating home monitoring.
A judge ordered him released on his own recognizance and returned him to electronic monitoring on August 5.

The very next day, police say 68-year-old Todd Stewart was fatally attacked outside a California residence.

Iriarte-Valdez was arrested August 7 and charged with m*rder and committing a felony while released on his own recognizance. His bail was set at $1.1 million.

Families trusted this funeral home to treat their loved ones with dignity. What authorities reportedly found inside was horrifying.

The remains of 56 people were discovered improperly stored and decomposing inside South Chicago Chapel, according to officials. Authorities described unrefrigerated areas, rodent and maggot infestations, and “deplorable conditions.” Neighbors said they had complained about a foul odor for weeks.

HERO ALERT: A father of four bravely sacrificed his own life to save a little girl from drowning in Myrtle Beach.

Derrick Moore, 47, saw the child struggling in a rip current after lifeguards had gone off duty.
He didn’t hesitate.

Police say Moore rushed into the ocean and successfully pulled the girl out of the current.
Then he was swept underwater.

Police and firefighters searched through the night. His body washed ashore Saturday afternoon.

The girl lived because Derrick Moore was willing to risk everything for a child he didn’t even know.

The Jacksonville Police Department, NC, sadly announced the passing of retired JPD Lieutenant, James, "XY" Brown.

Lt. Brown dedicated his life to serving our community since 1957 when he began volunteering with the police department. For nearly four decades, he helped generations of students safely cross the streets of Jacksonville, a familiar and beloved face to all. He loved children, and the children loved him.

An honorable Veteran, a faithful police officer, and a friend to so many, he leaves an everlasting legacy.

NEW: Authorities are responding to reports of a shooting near a Southwest Side school in Chicago.

A Chicago Fire Department official confirmed that there are reports of shots fired in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood's 5100-block of South Lotus Avenue.

Several officers and a stretcher could be seen.
Officials did not immediately say whether anyone is injured.

South Dakota Highway Patrol

BOOM! A Christian teacher who was forced out for refusing to use pronouns that violated his beliefs just secured a $650,000 settlement.

Indiana music teacher John Kluge had been allowed to address every student by last name instead of using names and pronouns that conflicted with his religious convictions.

Then the district revoked that accommodation.

Kluge resigned after being told to comply or face termination.

Now the district has agreed to pay $650,000 and provide religious discrimination training to senior administrators.

The district did not admit to wrongdoing, but this settlement sends a powerful message: religious freedom does not end at the classroom door.
