Washington wildfires updates: Firefighters in eastern Washington are struggling to gain the upper hand on the wildfires devastating the Spokane area. The three blazes have forced tens of thousands to flee and destroyed more than 700 buildings. Authoritiesβ¦
08/05/2026 UPDATE from the Incident Management Team (IMT):
Spokane Area Fires
Old Trails Fire, Fairview Fire, Autumn Lane Fires
Quick Facts
Location: Spokane and Stevens Counties
Start Date: Saturday, August 1, 2026
Cause: Under Investigation
Size in acres: 10,546 total acres
Percent contained: Autumn Lane 13% Old Trails 13% Fairview 5%
Firefighters making significant progress containing Spokane Area Fires
Current Situation:
Firefighters continue to make steady progress across the Spokane Area Fires, successfully establishing containment lines around the perimeters of all three fires. Current containment is 13% on the Autumn Lane Fire, 13% on the Old Trails Fire, and 5% on the Fairview Fire. With primary containment lines now in place, crews are focused on strengthening those lines through aggressive mop-up and extinguishing pockets of heat near homes and other structures to reduce the risk of additional damage.
The Autumn Lane Fire remains the most active of the three incidents. Despite heightened fire danger, firefighters successfully held the fire within its established footprint Tuesday while completing and reinforcing containment lines around the perimeter. On the Old Trails Fire, firefighters quickly detected and contained a 2.5-acre spot fire outside the established containment line. Crews also continued making solid progress on the Fairview Fire, improving containment and securing firelines.
Aircraft remain a vital part of the suppression effort, particularly on the Autumn Lane Fire, where they continue supporting firefighters on the ground. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) remains in effect over the incident. Encouragingly, there were zero drone incursions over the past 24 hours, allowing aircraft to operate safely and without interruption during critical firefighting operations. This cooperation from the public has made a meaningful difference in supporting suppression efforts.
WEATHER:
The cooler temperatures and higher relative humidities that have been aiding firefighting efforts since Monday are forecast to give way to temperatures climbing into the mid-to upper 90s and humidities in the low teens. These conditions are expected to increase fire danger, with another period of critical fire weather forecast for the latter part of the week and into the weekend.

VP JD Vance: "We got here by 40 years of bipartisan leaders selling our industrial base to foreign countries, allowing low-wage immigrants to come in and compete with Americans for jobs, by destroying the foundation of the middle class β that's how you got socialism. How you fix that problem is by doubling down on Donald Trump's economic nationalism."
"The base of the Democrat Party today is downwardly mobile, hyper-progressive, well educated people β people, I think, who were sold a bill of goods by universities, have a lot of debt, but not a good job to show for it."
"If the socialists cared about working class Americans, they would help us in our fraud efforts β but they don't. What they actually care about is illegal aliens and allowing illegal aliens to enrich themselves."
