It is with profound sadness that the Torrington Police Department, Connecticut, announces the passing of retired Officer Robert “Robbie” Simon following a courageous battle with cancer.

Robbie joined the Torrington Police Department in September 2007 and faithfully served our community for 17 years before retiring in the fall of 2024. Throughout his career, he served in several important roles, including patrol officer, Community Policing Officer, Police Activities League Officer, and member of the Department’s Special Emergency Response Team.

NEW: A collision between two vehicles left a Gilbert Arizona Police Department officer injured in the city early Monday morning, according to the authorities.

The wreck happened in the area of Warner and McQueen roads at around 12:15 a.m. July 26.

According to investigators, the officer was responding to a call when they were involved in a crash with another vehicle at the intersection. Authorities were still working to determine how and why the accident happened.

BREAKING: A military helicopter with two pilots from Fort Rucker crashed near Opp, Alabama, Monday afternoon.

Blake Turman, the sheriff of Covington County, confirmed that a helicopter crashed in a privately owned field on Cool Springs Road, near the Opp Bypass.

The sheriff tells WDHN he does not believe anyone was injured. The two pilots were taken to Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp to be “checked out.”

Fort Rucker officials confirmed the helicopter was from Fort Rucker. Details on the crash are limited.

UPDATE: A 15-year-old was arrested in connection with the shooting at Seattle Center that left three people dead and four others wounded, including a toddler.

Police say the teenage suspect was taken into custody after investigators identified him through surveillance video and witness interviews. Authorities are still searching for a second suspect believed to have taken part in the shooting.
