Sometimes the job is about much more than responding to calls.
When Officer Torres saw an elderly woman struggling to cross the street after the light had changed, he safely stopped traffic, walked her across the intersection, and made sure she got to the other side safely.
Itβs a simple act of kindness that reflects the compassion and commitment our officers bring to the community every day.
Thank you, Officer Torres, for looking out for our residents. One small act can make a big difference. π

ICYMI: LCSO Assists Florida Highway Patrol With Barricaded Homicide Suspect on I-75
"When our law enforcement partners call, we will ALWAYS answer. Safety is a team effort, and I am incredibly proud of our deputies who are always ready to respond whenever and wherever they're needed. Our partnerships across Southwest Florida make our communities stronger, and together we will continue working tirelessly to protect the people we serve." - Sheriff Carmine Marceno
Yesterday, members of our Special Operations Unit, Crisis Negotiation Team, Advanced Technology Support Unit, K9, and Patrol deputies responded to assist FHP during a barricaded suspect incident on Interstate 75 near mile marker 126. It was learned that the suspect involved was earlier involved in a homicide in St. Petersburg and fled from an attempted traffic stop by FHP.
LCSO deputies then immediately arrived to assist. After refusing to comply with lawful commands, SOU and K9 members were successful in establishing contact with the suspect and taking him into custody.
This remains an active Florida Highway Patrol investigation, and any additional information regarding the case will be released by FHP.

A 30-year-old twice-deported illegal immigrant from Honduras has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for murder-for-hire, cocaine trafficking, and illegal firearm possession.
After selling guns to informants, Frelin Hernandez Guardado offered discounted cocaine in exchange for help killing someone he believed had cooperated with law enforcement. Investigators intercepted him before the plot could be carried out. The case underscores both the risks of repeated illegal re-entry and the work that stopped a planned killing.
