Praying for the St. Johns Florida sheriff's deputy who was seriously injured in the line of duty last week.🙏🏻

The crash on Florida 16 at Stratton Boulevard happened about 8: 20 p.m. Saturday, July 18, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, which is investigating the collision.

The Highway Patrol preliminary investigation showed a 68-year-old St. Augustine woman driving a sport utility vehicle was southbound on Stratton when she attempted to turn left onto 16 at the intersection.

A 30-year-old male deputy, also driving an SUV, was westbound on 16.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office confirmed on social media that a deputy was injured but provided no information regarding whether he was driving a Sheriff's Office vehicle or responding to a call for service at the time of the collision.

The FHP reported that the woman turned in front of the deputy. The front of the deputy's SUV collided with the driver's side of the woman's SUV. Her vehicle spun around before coming to rest in the left turn lane. The deputy's vehicle crossed the eastbound lanes and then collided with a stop sign on the side of the road.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy sustained "serious injuries" and was taken to the hospital. The woman had been wearing a safety belt, but the deputy wasn't, according to the crash report.

UPDATE: A domestic violence suspect is dead after a chase ended with a violent crash and a police shooting in a residential Simi Valley neighborhood on Tuesday.

According to Simi Valley police, officers responded to the 2500 block of Dusan Street around 8:15 a.m. in response to a reported domestic violence incident.
Police learned the suspect in the incident, a 37-year-old Simi Valley resident, fled the location before officers arrived. After a preliminary investigation, police determined there was probable cause to arrest the man for domestic battery and elder abuse.
During the investigation, police learned that the suspect was reportedly armed and, before fleeing the residence, allegedly said he would "shoot it out" with officers if the police were called, according to the department.

A few hours later, at approximately 1:35 p.m., officers spotted the suspect driving near the Simi Valley Town Center. They attempted to stop him, but the suspect took off, sparking a chase, according to police.
The chase continued through Simi Valley and ultimately ended in a crash back near the 2500 block of Dusan Street, where an officer-involved shooting occurred, the department said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and no officers were injured.

NEW: Bloomfield Township Michigan police are investigating after eight suspects allegedly stole 113 items worth about $10,800 from Dick’s Sporting Goods Sunday evening.

Police were called to the store at 2105 S. Telegraph Road around 6:30 p.m. The group included three females and five males, ages 17 to 25. They ran from the store and fled in an older white Chevrolet Suburban and a white Chevrolet Blazer.

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: Two Illinois state troopers were hurt in a rollover crash in Cicero Tuesday night, ISP said.

The two troopers were taken to the hospital after their squad was involved in a rollover crash at about 11:52 p.m. at the intersection of 14th Street and Cicero Avenue as authorities said they pursued a stolen SUV.

Authorities said the crash was not the result of a chase, but happened when the driver of the stolen vehicle crashed into the troopers' squad while trying to get away.

The troopers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries
A third vehicle driven by an innocent motorist also sustained heavy front-end damage as a result of the crash, police said. That driver wasn't hurt.

One person was taken into custody and charges are pending.
