This morning, we had the honor of paying our respects to Nicholas Dale, the helicopter pilot who gave his life while fighting the Gold Mountain Fire.

Thank you for your service and your sacrifice, Mr. Dale. May you rest in peace.

Post update: We recognize that Mr. Dale was Canadian and that he came to our country to help fight a wildland fire and protect Colorado communities. I apologize for not including in the original post that he was Canadian. It was not an intentional omission and it was not in any way meant as a political statement. It was merely human error and it was mine (PIO). Please know we are grateful to Mr. Dale and our hearts break for his family, friends, fire-fighting colleagues, and fellow Canadian countrymen and women.

Congratulations to Deputy Brett Anderson on his recent retirement after more than 27 years of service to the Clark County Sheriff's Office! πŸš”

Brett joined CCSO as a Reserve Deputy in 1999 before becoming a full-time deputy in 2000. Throughout his career, he served in Patrol, Civil, Warrants, Courthouse, UAS (drone), Mobile Response Team, as an FTO, and with the Campus Tactical Unit. His favorite assignment, though, was Marine Patrol, where he spent four years full-time. As Brett likes to say, "Marine Patrol is the BEST job at CCSO!"

Brett is looking forward to spending more time with family and friends, traveling, golfing, hiking, fishing, biking, and "taking time to smell the roses." (Judging by the photo, he didn't waste any time getting started!) πŸ˜†πŸŒΉ

Thank you, Brett, for your 27 years of service and dedication to Clark County. We wish you nothing but smooth sailing in retirement! βš“

Before retiring in 2024, Zadie served as a narcotics and human remains detection K-9 alongside her handler for nearly 10 years. She spent her retirement catching birds, swimming and playing with her favorite ball. Thank you for your service, Zadie, and rest easy.πŸ’™πŸΎ

The Stop Insider Trading Act does exactly what it says:

βœ… Bans members of Congress from purchasing individual stocks

βœ… Prevents lawmakers from profiting off insider information

Praying for the St. Johns Florida sheriff's deputy who was seriously injured in the line of duty last week.πŸ™πŸ»

The crash on Florida 16 at Stratton Boulevard happened about 8: 20 p.m. Saturday, July 18, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, which is investigating the collision.

The Highway Patrol preliminary investigation showed a 68-year-old St. Augustine woman driving a sport utility vehicle was southbound on Stratton when she attempted to turn left onto 16 at the intersection.

A 30-year-old male deputy, also driving an SUV, was westbound on 16.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office confirmed on social media that a deputy was injured but provided no information regarding whether he was driving a Sheriff's Office vehicle or responding to a call for service at the time of the collision.

The FHP reported that the woman turned in front of the deputy. The front of the deputy's SUV collided with the driver's side of the woman's SUV. Her vehicle spun around before coming to rest in the left turn lane. The deputy's vehicle crossed the eastbound lanes and then collided with a stop sign on the side of the road.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy sustained "serious injuries" and was taken to the hospital. The woman had been wearing a safety belt, but the deputy wasn't, according to the crash report.

UPDATE: A domestic violence suspect is dead after a chase ended with a violent crash and a police shooting in a residential Simi Valley neighborhood on Tuesday.

According to Simi Valley police, officers responded to the 2500 block of Dusan Street around 8:15 a.m. in response to a reported domestic violence incident.
Police learned the suspect in the incident, a 37-year-old Simi Valley resident, fled the location before officers arrived. After a preliminary investigation, police determined there was probable cause to arrest the man for domestic battery and elder abuse.
During the investigation, police learned that the suspect was reportedly armed and, before fleeing the residence, allegedly said he would "shoot it out" with officers if the police were called, according to the department.

A few hours later, at approximately 1:35 p.m., officers spotted the suspect driving near the Simi Valley Town Center. They attempted to stop him, but the suspect took off, sparking a chase, according to police.
The chase continued through Simi Valley and ultimately ended in a crash back near the 2500 block of Dusan Street, where an officer-involved shooting occurred, the department said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and no officers were injured.
