A federal judge has ordered convicted plane hijacker Miakel Guerra Morales released from ICE custody under supervision.

Morales served 21 years for aircraft piracy and conspiracy after he and others assaulted a flight crew and forced a Cuban commuter plane to land in Key West in 2003.

The Department of Homeland Security sharply criticized the decision.

BREAKING: Multiple people shot at Kroger grocery store in Cypress, Texas, according to Harris County Constable Mark Herman.

"Deputies with Constable Mark Herman's Office responded to the 20300 block of Cypresswood Drive following reports of shots fired inside the Kroger store.

Preliminary reports indicate that multiple people have been shot. The exact number of victims and the extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.

Witnesses reported that a Black male wearing a yellow shirt and black pants was seen firing a weapon inside the store.

A possible suspect has been detained, but the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the suspect's involvement.

Multiple law enforcement officers and emergency personnel are on scene."

UPDATE: At approximately 2:50 p.m. today, deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s office responded to the Kroger located at 15043 20355 Cypresswood Drive regarding a reported active shooter.

Deputies arrived on scene in under two minutes and quickly took a suspect into custody. Based on the preliminary investigation, this incident is believed to have stemmed from a domestic disturbance between both males.

Family Violence Investigators with our office are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Appropriate charges will be filed upon completion of the investigation.

The male shooting suspect sustained a gun shot to his neck and was transported to a near by hospital by the Krogers.

There is no ongoing threat to the public at this time.

Curtland Sawyer, one of BEST OF THE BEST ICE law enforcement officers, was driving when he saw a two car collision.

He immediately pulled over and began providing lifesaving medical care to one of the drivers, applying a tourniquet to his bleeding arm.

Thanks to Officer Sawyer’s quick and decisive action, the driver is safe. He, and all of our ICE officers, are true American heroes. 🇺🇸

Two teenagers have been charged in connection with the targeted killings of five members of one family. Two other family members were wounded.

A 16-year-old is being prosecuted as an adult, while the case against a 15-year-old began in juvenile court. Troopers arrested the pair after stopping their vehicle at a state park.

It is common sense that violent offenders with a history of violence should not be released into our communities when they pose a substantial risk to public safety.

But that’s exactly what happens when judges grant a defendant mental health diversion over prosecutors’ objection.

Not only is this dangerous, but victims never see justice because the violent offender never has to face the consequences of their actions or accept responsibility for their crimes.

But now, with the passage of the new law AB 46, judges will have the power to deny mental health diversion to people who pose a substantial and undue risk to the public.

We thank Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen for introducing the bill, which goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2027, the California Legislature and Governor Newsom for recognizing that mental health diversion reform is urgently needed to protect our communities.

Our office will continue supporting legislation that tightens mental health diversion and gives courts more room to weigh a defendant’s violent history before granting it.
