SoCal forecast: There will be a gradual warming trend that will develop heading into the Fourth of July holiday over the weekend.

NorCal forecast: Itโ€™s a pleasant start to Friday across the Sacramento region, with clear skies, a light breeze, and cool morning temperatures helping ease into the day. After the recent stretch of mild weather, temperatures are expected to return to seasonable values this afternoon. Fridayโ€™s Valley high in Sacramento is forecast to reach 92 degrees, right on par with the normal high for this time of year. A few clouds may linger at times, and there is a slight chance of an isolated thunderstorm in the Sierra, mainly south of Highway 50.

Michael Bon, a 33-year-old Haitian illegal alien from Massachusetts, is accused of killing Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael Pahira Jr. in a deadly July 2 crash involving two tractor-trailers. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed Bon has been in the U.S. illegally since June 2025 after his parole and TPS application were denied. He faces multiple charges, including involuntary manslaughter, and is being held on $700,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 16.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the off-duty passing of one of our own. Sergeant Brett Miller, a 21-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police, passed away at his residence in Murray, KY on July 1, 2026.

Sgt. Miller began his career with the Kentucky State Police in 2005 upon graduating KSP Cadet Class 85. He had previously served with the Graves County Sheriff's Office beginning in 1999, as well as dedicating time to the Calloway County Sheriff's Office before joining the Kentucky State Police.

During his time with KSP, Sgt. Miller served selflessly in his roles as a trooper, detective, squad sergeant, detective sergeant, and canine sergeant. He has received honors such as being named the Post 1 Detective of the Year in 2013 and the state-wide KSP Detective of the Year in 2014.

Rest Easy Brother. Prayers for his family of blue and blood.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Sacramento police officers say the biggest loss from ending the mounted unit won't be crime-fighting capability but the community connections the horses helped build with residents, visitors and downtown business owners.

Residents of the small San Joaquin Valley city of Avenal, California are furious

They voted in April to recall the majority of their city council, but the city council members are refusing to leave office

Over 75% of voters approved recalling all four officials. Kings County certified the results in May

Voters targeted Mayor Alvaro Preciado and Councilmembers Leticia Gamez, David Reynosa, and Pablo Hernandez. 4 of the 5 council seats

The city leaders who are refusing to leave are saying the recall was conducted unlawfully by Kings County Elections instead of the city itself and lacked proper city authorization

So they wanted to be able to give authorization for a vote to remove themโ€ฆ. Sureโ€ฆโ€ฆ

I looked into this and verified they should all be removed. Under California law, the recalled Avenal officials should be removed from office

Californiaโ€™s recall process is governed by the California Constitution (Article II, Sections 13-19) and the California Elections Code (Division 11, ยงยง 11000 et seq.).

Once a recall election is properly held and a majority votes โ€œYesโ€ to recall an official, that official is removed from office upon certification of the results (Elections Code ยง11384)

The election was conducted by Kings County, the county elections official, which is standard procedure for local recalls when the city does not handle it itself. The county certified the results after verifying the process.

The Morning Star Fire Department sadly announced the passing of Charles Wayne Bechel Jr. (923) at the age of 61.

Wayne had been a part of the Morning Star Fire Department family since the early 1980s, dedicating decades of service to our community as a firefighter and longtime member of the Board of Directors. His commitment to the department extended far beyond emergency responses. Wayne was the person who could fix just about anything, and he worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our apparatus and equipment maintained, repaired, and ready to answer the call whenever needed.

His knowledge, work ethic, and willingness to help were invaluable to our department. More importantly, Wayne was a friend, mentor, and brother firefighter whose presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Rest Easy Brother. Prayers for his family of red and blood.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป
