The Los Angeles Police Departmentβs Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting that occurred in Hollenbeck Division.
On May 16, 2026, at around 1:45 a.m., Hollenbeck Patrol Division uniformed police officers responded to a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon in progress at a residence in the 3000 block Glenn Avenue.
Upon arrival, the officers were met by a family member of the suspect outside of the suspectβs residence. While officers were conducting their investigation, the suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Robert Velasquez, emerged from the residence with two knives and a grilling fork. The officers gave verbal commands to Velasquez to drop the weapons, but he did not comply. Velasquez threw one of the knives in the officersβ direction and while still armed with one knife and the grilling fork, an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred.
Velasquez fell to the ground momentarily and began to get back up to his feet, still holding the knife and grilling fork resulting in a second Officer-Involved Shooting. Velasquez was struck by gunfire, collapsed onto the ground, but refused to submit to arrest. Velasquez sat up and began moving toward the front door of the residence resulting in the use of an intermediate force option. The intermediate force option was successful, and Velasquez was taken into custody.
The officers rendered medical aid until the arrival of Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel arrived at scene and transported Velasquez to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Two knives and a grilling fork were recovered at the scene and booked as evidence. No community members or officers were injured during this incident.
Force Investigation Division personnel responded and assumed investigative responsibility.

Todayβs Supreme Court decision is a missed opportunity to restore the original meaning of the 14th Amendment.
Birthright citizenship has become a powerful magnet for illegal immigration that will forever change our nation if left unaddressed. Automatic citizenship for children born to parents in the United States illegally or only temporarily is an absurdity that was never contemplated by our Constitution nor agreed to by the American people.
Congress must clarify that American citizenship means something and does not extend automatically to children whose parents are in this country unlawfully or temporarily. The American people and the sovereignty of our nation deserve nothing less.
Greg Abbott

The Supreme Court upheld Birthright Citizenship, which is too bad for our Country, but we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process. No long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary! Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship. They will have my Complete and Total Support! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Another video. Another investigation. Another vehicle identified.
This driver was caught on social media doing donuts and vandalizing city property. Our Directed Patrol officers identified the vehicle, tracked it through ALPR hits across the city, and located it today. A seizure warrant was obtained, and the vehicle was impounded.
Tomorrow's Mexico match should be a time to celebrate with family and friends. NOT an excuse for reckless driving, street takeovers, or destroying our community.
If you're planning to come to Santa Ana and engage in criminal activity, know this: we're watching, we're investigating, and we will hold you accountable.
Celebrate responsibly⦠because your viral video could become our next case.

NEW: An Indiana State Police trooper is being hailed as a hero for saving a man with an injury from a chainsaw in southern Indiana over the weekend.
According to ISP, dispatchers in Crawford County received a call around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28 about a 35-year-old man who had a severe laceration from a chainsaw on his leg at Wildridge Resort, near Patoka Lake.
ISP Trooper Blake Leary reportedly arrived on the scene within five minutes and applied a tourniquet to the man's right thigh, which controlled the severe bleeding. Two cars hit a Tacoma WA trooper. Why prosecutors say they canβt file charges.
Two drivers struck Washington State Patrol trooper Tara-Marysa Guting in separate incidents on Dec. 19, 2025, leading to her death in Tacoma. Prosecutors will not file charges against either driver, stating they cannot prove either acted with criminal negligence or knowingly left the scene of a fatal accident. Poor visibility due to darkness and rain, along with the uncertainty of which collision caused Gutingβs death, contributed to the decision not to press charges. Guting was the 34th WSP trooper to die in the line of duty.
