On June 9, 2004, deputies from Industry Station responded to a Motel 6 in Hacienda Heights after receiving reports of a man pointing a gun at people. When deputies arrived at the suspect’s second-floor room, the suspect emerged and began firing. Although the weapon was later determined to be a pellet gun, it closely resembled a .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol.

Deputies returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect. During the chaotic exchange, Deputy Michael “Mike” Arruda was struck in the neck by friendly fire.

Deputy Arruda was transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he fought for his life for six days before succumbing to his injuries on June 15, 2004.

Deputy Arruda, 35, was a 13-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, he served four years in the United States Navy before joining the Sheriff’s Department. He was survived by his 11-year-old son, Michael Jr., and his fiancée, LASD Sergeant Lidia Silva. Two months after his death, Sergeant Silva gave birth to their daughter, Savannah.

Our Hollywood VICE officers continue their hard work addressing businesses that choose to ignore the law.

This weekend, officers cited a popular Hollywood bar for serving alcohol while operating with a suspended ABC license. When officers returned just two days later, the business was still selling alcohol in violation of the suspension.

As a result, officers confiscated the alcohol and shut down operations.

The message is simple: compliance isn’t optional. Our officers will continue working to keep Hollywood safe and hold businesses accountable when they put profits ahead of public safety.

ICE agent fires shots after being hit by a vehicle in Stafford Township, New Jersey.

An ICE agent opened fire on a fleeing suspect who struck the agent with their vehicle Monday morning in Manahawkin, New Jersey, according to police. Police say ICE agents were attempting to arrest a suspect who managed to flee the scene in a vehicle. As they fled, the suspect’s vehicle struck an ICE agent. The agent discharged his firearm at the vehicle, possibly striking it. The suspect managed to continue fleeing and has yet to be located.

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: A deputy with the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin, is recovering at home Monday morning after being shot Sunday in the Town of Elba.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded Sunday to a report of an intoxicated man who was causing a disturbance and threatening people at River Run Dog Park. As law enforcement approached the man, they say he shot at them, hitting a deputy.
After the shooting, the man ran to his car where he later died by suicide, according to a release from the Dodge County Sheriff's Office.
No one else was injured in the incident, and no law enforcement officers fired their weapons, according to authorities. A handgun was found near the suspect.

NEW: A 21-year-old Indiana man was killed when a gunman armed with an illegally modified pistol opened fire during a stunt driving “sideshow” in the Ford City Mall parking lot early Saturday, according to Chicago police and videos posted on social media.

Martin Isaac Cantu Murillo, of South Bend, was standing outside in the 7600 block of South Cicero Avenue around 2:50 a.m. when someone began firing and struck him in the head, police said. The gunman fled the scene in a red SUV. CPD has not revealed a motive for the shooting, and no arrests have been reported.
