It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved K-9 Hoss.
After a courageous battle with cancer, Hoss passed away on June 8, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him most.
Hoss joined the Round Rock Police Department in October 2017 and spent more than eight years serving our community. Throughout his career, Hoss completed more than 730 deployments and assisted in over 260 arrests. He helped remove illegal narcotics from our streets, recovered firearms, located critical evidence, and assisted in countless investigations. In 2024, Hoss was named the Dogs for Law Enforcement Texas Seminar Narcotics Detection Champion.
But those who knew Hoss know that his legacy is much more than the work he accomplished.
Beyond his official duties, Hoss was known for his charismatic personality, boundless energy, and love of people. Whether he was working alongside officers, visiting department personnel, or interacting with members of our community, Hoss left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Since becoming partners in 2021, Officer Don Garmong and Hoss shared a bond that extended far beyond the job.
βHe was loyal, loving, and unforgettable. More than my partner, Hoss was my best friend in every meaning of the word.β
β Officer Don Garmong
Today, we mourn not only the loss of an exceptional K-9, but the loss of a friend. Though his absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, we take comfort in the memories he leaves behind and the lasting impact he made on this department, our community, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Thank you for everything, Hoss.
You will be deeply missed, and you will never be forgotten.

βSeeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.β

NEW: Mahender Makhijani, 44, a lawful permanent resident from India living in Corona del Mar, was arrested this morning on a federal criminal complaint charging him with defrauding a bank out of nearly $100 million.
Makhijani controlled Cantor Group V LLC, a Newport Beach-based company that had a lending agreement requiring it to pledge only first-lien real estate loans to the victim bank.
Makhijani falsified title policies from September 2024 to April 2025 to make it appear Cantor held first-lien positions when other creditors were ahead. Makhijani and a subordinate forged documents in Adobe, altered metadata, and submitted the falsified records to the victim bank, while also providing misleading explanations during calls and in spreadsheets.
If convicted, Makhijani faces a statutory maximum sentence of 30 years in federal prison. He is expected to make his initial appearance this afternoon in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, California. All defendants are presumed innocent until convicted in court.
Our nationβs economy and welfare depend on a healthy banking system. When lenders are deceived, it has downstream effects on consumers and businesses.
