In a world where so much of our time is spent behind screens, it’s refreshing to see young people outside, connecting with their neighbors, experiencing the real world, and realizing that they have the power to create change. Whether they came for volunteer hours, community service, or simply to be part of something positive, their energy and enthusiasm made a difference.

Thank you for showing that the next generation cares about their community. The future is bright when young people are willing to get outside, touch some grass, build relationships, and take pride in where they live.

BREAKING: Muscatine shooting spree results in the deaths of seven family members, including suspect; school employees and students among the deceased

Iowa: The Muscatine Police Department is actively investigating a series of homicides that occurred Monday, June 1, believed to have been connected to a domestic-related dispute.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Muscatine Police Department Investigating Multiple Homicides

On Monday, June 1, 2026, at approximately 12:12 p.m., MUSCOM received a report of a shooting at 210 Park Avenue in Muscatine. Police officers and emergency medical personnel were dispatched immediately.
Upon arrival, officers located four victims inside the residence. All four victims had suffered gunshot wounds and were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The adult male suspect had left the residence prior to law enforcement’s arrival but was quickly identified as Ryan Willis McFarland, 52, of Muscatine, Iowa. Officers located McFarland on the Riverfront Trail near the pedestrian bridge. The suspect had a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers and EMS personnel rendered aid; however, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

During the initial stages of the investigation, information was developed indicating there may be additional victims. Officers subsequently located an adult male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound inside a residence at 1509 Mill Street. Officers then responded to a business located at 808 Grandview Avenue, where they discovered another adult male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

The preliminary investigation indicates the shootings stemmed from a domestic dispute. At this time, all victims are believed to be family members of the deceased suspect.

The Muscatine Police Department is being assisted by the Muscatine Fire Department, the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives continue to process the crime scenes and conduct witness interviews.

Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact Lt. David O’Connor of the Muscatine Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit at (563) 263-9922, extension 608. Callers may remain anonymous.

β€œStroke of a pen, on day one, a minimum of $2.20 will be removed from a gallon of gas. Then a second signature will be allowing California companies to drill for oil.

California has more oil than Texas. More oil than Texas. Get that through your head. That is an absolute fact. It has been kept to us and lied to us for decades.

We import. We're the largest state in the country, 42 million people plus. We are the biggest consumer of gasoline, of oil. And we import 80% of our gas and oil from other countries. We make other countries rich at your expense.

That ends on day one with me as your governor.”

Praying for the Polk County Iowa sheriff's deputy who was shot in the line of duty this afternoon.πŸ™πŸ»

Law enforcement officials said they shot and killed a man after he wounded a Polk County sheriff's deputy in a confrontation while authorities were serving a warrant at a Johnston home.

Deputies assigned to the sheriff's office mental health unit and U.S. marshals went to the home in the 5700 block of Linden Court on Monday, June 1, and were trying to serve the warrant when the man ran into a garage and barricaded himself inside, sheriff’s Lt. Mark Chance told the Des Moines Register.
Chance said officers tried to communicate with the man, who had started a fire in the garage, and persuade him to surrender. When they attempted to enter the garage, the man fired at them, striking a deputy in the hand.
Multiple officers returned fire, wounding the man, who later died at the scene, Chance said.
Chance said the Johnston-Grimes Fire District, which already was at the scene to assist, extinguished the fire. It was contained to the garage.
Authorities have not released the man’s name or details about the warrant.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation, Chance said.
The deputy's injury was not life-threatening and he was taken to a hospital for treatment, Chance said.

Today, we celebrated the Final Leg Ceremony of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics - Southern California at the historical LA Memorial Coliseum in downtown Los Angeles.

Thousands of law enforcement officers run the relay each year, carrying the Flame of Hope through their communities to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and help fund programs for athletes with intellectual disabilities. This year, the relay will cover more than 10,000 miles through 13 states over 23 days.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is a proud participant in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, with 16 stations and units taking part. While our deputies run this relay - which is between 1 and 10 miles, depending on the station - we honor the SOSC Athletes, who will go on to participate in the Special Olympics at the National level during the Summer Games in Minnesota later this month. These Athletes will demonstrate strength, capability, and heart. We wish each Athlete safe travels and the best of luck.
