Celebrations & funeral set for N.D. World War II veteran killed in Japan.

Army Air Forces Staff Sgt. Irvin C. Ellingson, 25, of Dahlen, was accounted for on June 17, 2025. His family recently received their full briefing on his identification.

Ellingson served as a radar observer aboard a Boeing B-29 β€œSuperfortress” bomber assigned to the 878th Bombardment Squadron, 499th Bombardment Group in spring 1945. On April 14, during a combat mission to Tokyo, Japan, the aircraft was shot down over Chiba Prefecture.

WATCH LIVE: The president convenes his Cabinet at the White House as Iran negotiations reach critical phase.

https://fb.watch/HmQBvtMXn8/

POTUS: "I'm thrilled to welcome everyone to the 12th Cabinet meeting of our administration... We’re always letting the press join us because we’re very open and transparent... This team has achieved more than most other administrations achieve in 8 years."

POTUS on Iran: "They want very much to make a deal. So far, they haven't gotten there. We're not satisfied with it, but we will be β€” either that or we'll have to just finish the job... They're negotiating on fumes, but we'll see what happens."

POTUS: "Under the leadership of VP, the WHFraudTF is waging war on waste, fraud, theft, and abuse...in 2 months we've exposed tens of billions of dollars of defrauded taxpayer money, prosecuted numerous fraudsters, and stopped billions in suspicious payments."

POTUS: "I want to express our tremendous gratitude to our outgoing Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard β€” who is a terrific person." πŸ‘πŸ»

VP highlights the work of the WHFraudTF at the Cabinet meeting, aided by many of the Cabinet Secretaries at the table:

"This has been a whole-of-government effort, Mr. President, the team really deserves a great deal of credit here." πŸ‘

Todd Blanche provides an update on prosecuting fraud:

"We had a $1B fraudβ€”a conviction at trialβ€”last week out of Florida, and this was an organization that was stealing from senior citizens... they were duping them to buy medical equipment... that the taxpayers paid for."

SecRubio: "Diplomacy is always the first option and we continue to work on that... Iran, and these people in charge of Iran, can never have a nuclear weapon, and they will never have a nuclear weapon β€” and they most certainly will not have one as long as you're President."

Lee Zeldin says the EPA has cancelled billions of dollars in wasteful spending:

"Before your inauguration, they were caught on video saying they were rushing to get billions of dollars out the door before your swearing-in because they were afraid that once you were sworn-in, you were going to stop it. Well, that part, they were right."

SecRubio provides an update at the Cabinet meeting: One of the places I stopped last night was to initial the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity in Armenia... and in addition to that, we also signed a critical minerals MoU with them.

SecretaryBurgum : Just since January of this year, lease sales have brought over $4 billion of revenues into the Treasury. That’s THIRTEEN TIMES more than the Biden Administration brought in on lease sales in the entire 4 years they were in office.

SecWar: "Whether it is through the efforts of your negotiators that they ensure that [Iran never has] a nuclear weapon, or we have to go back to the DeptofWar to finish the job that way, we're prepared to do that."

SBA_Kelly: "At the SBAgov, we found $200B in fraudulent PPP loans that the Biden Administration tried to hide, and forgive, and sweep under the rug. We've turned the first $22B of that over to Treasury for collections, and to DOJ for prosecution."

SecScottBessent: "Drug and pharmaceuticals prices are plummeting and rent is down... Business investment rose at a 10.4% annual rate in the First Quarter. Capital expenditures and business equipment rose more than 17%, and that is as a result of the tax bill and tariffs."

POTUS: "The Strait has gotta be open to everybody. It's international waters... [Iran] would like to control it; nobody's going to control it. It's international waters."

POTUS: "I'm very proud of D.C. because when we came here a little more than a year ago, it was a very dangerous place, and now, it's a very safe place... the grass is all beautiful... the fountains, most of them are in the final stages or fixed."

"Is the U.S. considering easing sanctions on Iran to allow Iran to sell its crude to market?"

POTUS: "No, we're not talking about any easing of sanctions or giving money."

NEW: A CT state police trooper is suing New Haven and Cheshire, plus two police officers from those municipalities, over injuries he said were sustained during a motorcycle procession escorting the body of a slain police officer to his hometown.

In a lawsuit filed late last month, state trooper John Myer claims he required back surgery after a prior injury was aggravated when he was struck from the rear after an officer in front of him abruptly braked while entering the highway. At the time, Myer and other officers were participating in a procession to transport the body of slain Minneapolis police officer Jamal Mitchell from Bradley International Airport back to his hometown of New Haven on June 12, 2024.

The Arlington County Police Department is profoundly saddened to announce the line of duty death of Corporal Barry Foust who passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, following a courageous battle with 9/11-related cancer.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Corporal Foust was on patrol at the intersection of Walter Reed Drive and Columbia Pike when American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon. He immediately reported incident information over the radio, beginning Arlington County’s response to the terrorist attack at the Pentagon. He remained working at the site for the following week collecting evidence and the remains of victims. He was diagnosed with cancer related to the recovery efforts in June 2025.

Corporal Foust began his career with ACPD as a patrol officer in 1986. He later became a certified Motor Officer and worked tirelessly to ensure transportation safety through enforcement and education and supported numerous special events and details. Following 32 years of outstanding service to the Arlington community, he retired in June 2019.

Never one to remain idle, Corporal Foust served as an officer with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department from March 2020 to December 2022. During that time, Corporal Foust remained connected to Arlington, providing mutual aid support during large scale special events such as the Marine Corps Marathon. As the Arlington County Police Department continued to struggle with police staffing following the pandemic, Corporal Foust once again answered the call, returning to duty in December 2022 to continue his service here, to our community.

β€œCorporal Barry Foust truly embodied the spirit of public service, dedicating over 35 years to the safety and protection of others,” said Chief Andy Penn. β€œHis response to the terrorist attack at the Pentagon is a testament to his bravery and unwavering commitment to being there for people in their time of need. He selflessly served others, including as a mentor to many younger officers, helping guide and shape these law enforcement professionals. His remarkable resilience and contributions to the Arlington community will never be forgotten and he leaves an enduring and lasting impact on our agency.”

Information regarding funeral arrangements is forthcoming. The Foust family kindly requests privacy at this time.

Corporal Foust’s death is the 8th law enforcement line of duty death in Arlington County’s history and the second line of duty death from 9/11-related cancer. Visit our Hall of Honor to learn more about our fallen officers and their acts of valor in service to the Arlington community.

Not in Douglas County! πŸš«πŸš”

You can run, and you can try to hide, but we will find you.

Earlier this month, an alert deputy spotted a suspicious vehicle in the King Soopers parking lot on S. Quebec Street. The car was parked in a handicap spot with expired temporary tags (April 2024). The vehicle had been flagged earlier that day for running from police in another jurisdiction.

One person was detained immediately, but two men…both Aurora residents…decided to take their chances on foot.

It was all hands on deck to ensure they didn't get far:
β€’Patrol Deputies established a tight perimeter.
β€’Drones provided overhead surveillance.
β€’K-9 Rudy, our IMPACT unit and our Traffic team conducted a ground search.

One runner was caught quickly near a local business. The second suspect led deputies on a search through a nearby residential neighborhood. Thanks to vigilant citizens who pointed the way, deputies located the suspect hiding behind a first-floor balcony and safely took him into custody.

The primary suspect was found to have multiple felony and misdemeanor warrants, including charges for burglary, stalking, and forgery. All three now face charges of obstruction.

Great work by the entire team and our community for keeping Douglas County safe!

UPDATE: It is now being called potentially the deadliest industrial tragedy in modern Washington State history. Another press conference was held this afternoon following yesterday morning’s catastrophic failure of a massive tank containing the highly corrosive chemical known as white liquor at Nippon Dynawave Packaging in Longview.

One more fatality has now been confirmed after an individual succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, bringing the death toll to two. Nine more people remain missing and are presumed dead after Scott Goldstein said response operations are now shifting into recovery mode. Seven employees remain hospitalized, while the firefighter injured during the initial response has since been released.

Chief Goldstein said officials now estimate that roughly 25,000 gallons of white liquor remain inside the damaged 900,000-gallon tank. Approximately 500,000 gallons were released during the blast. Crews will continue working to stabilize the tank and make the area safe enough for entry. Officials say that as victims are recovered, they will undergo decontamination before being transported to the Cowlitz County Coroner's Office for identification and family notification. The Coroner’s Office will release names once all victims have been identified.

The incident occurred around 7:15 a.m., near a shift change at the facility. Officials say the affected areas included a break room along with administrative and operational workspaces. At this time, investigators do not believe any video of the explosion exists, but officials described the blast as extremely powerful, causing heavy damage to vehicles, buildings, and mechanical equipment throughout the area.

The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries confirmed it currently has open inspections involving the facility, although officials declined to provide specifics. Details including the age of the tank and when it was last inspected also remain unknown.

Officials additionally confirmed there have been no negative impacts to local air quality or drinking water systems as a result of the disaster. However, the public is still being asked to avoid ditches and dikes in the area while water testing continues. Authorities also confirmed the pH level of the Columbia River was affected, at least initially, following the release.

The cause of the tank failure remains under investigation.

More details will be provided as they become available.
