A majority of evacuation orders for the Sandy Fire have been lifted as firefighters contain more of the Southern California wildfire.

The fire that sparked near Sandy Avenue shortly after 10 a.m. on Monday grew to 2,141 acres and is 30% contained, according to Cal Fire.

More than 850 personnel have been assigned to the fire. Air and ground resources from agencies across Southern California have been utilized during the firefight.

A 13-year-old boy was found shot and gravely wounded between two homes in South Chicago this afternoon.

Nobody called 911 to report gunfire in the area.

The mayor disconnected the local ShotSpotters in 2024.

With the upcoming World Cup fast approaching, I recently spoke with ABC7 about the importance of public safety and the measures we are taking to help ensure a safe environment for everyone.

•We encourage the public to remain vigilant. If you hear, see, or read anything that causes concern or suggests a potential threat, please contact law enforcement immediately so it can be properly investigated. By working together, we can help save lives.

•For those who own firearms, make sure they are properly secured and safely stored at all times.

•Parents are encouraged to stay engaged and aware of the individuals their children associate with, both in person and online.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is working closely with the Inglewood Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, and multiple local, state, and federal partners to coordinate security efforts for the World Cup.  While we will collaborate with federal agencies to ensure the safety and security of the event, these efforts are not related to civil immigration enforcement. 

Our priority is to keep the games safe for our residents, visitors, and all who attend.

NEW: A Robertson County Texas deputy received non-life-threatening injuries Thursday afternoon while responding to a separate vehicle crash.
Sheriff Bill Ruland says the deputy’s patrol vehicle hydroplaned off FM 46 outside Franklin and struck a tree.
The deputy was stable as he was taken to St. Joseph’s in Bryan by ambulance, said Sheriff Ruland.

In an update, the Sheriff said that, aside from a few stitches, he’s okay.

The Garden Groove fire UPDATE: Evacuation orders have been lifted for all residential areas.
The following street closures remain in place:�• Western Ave. from Garden Grove Blvd. to Chapman Ave.�• Lampson Ave. from Santa Rosalia Ave. to Western Ave.
Returning our community safely to their homes is always a top priority. We appreciate the patience, cooperation, and support of our community as operations continue. Im currently on scene at the Command Post on Western Ave.  Alert: The Orange County Fire Authority is on scene responding to an industrial chemical leak on the 12000 Block of Western Ave.

OCFA has issued an evacuation order for the following area:

North of Garden Grove Boulevard
South of Orangewood Avenue
East of Monarch Street
West of Beach Boulevard

OCFA is stabilizing the incident. Please avoid the area.

A reunification center has been established at:

Rancho Alamitos High School
11351 Dale St.
Garden Grove, CA 92841

Please, praying for the Jackson County Sheriff's deputy who was seriously injured in the line of duty earlier this week.🙏🏻

Mississippi: The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is providing an update on the condition of Deputy Craig Scott, who was injured in a multivehicle crash Tuesday.

JCSO said Deputy Scott remains in stable condition and is making improvements. However, he still has a long road to recovery, with multiple surgeries planned.

“By the grace of God, Craig survived. Given the circumstances of the accident, the outcome could have been far different, and we are beyond thankful he is still here with us,” the page reads.
The wreck happened Tuesday at the intersection of Old Biloxi Road and Stanley Road. It involved Scott, who was riding a motorcycle, and three other vehicles.
Craig was flown to USA Health University Hospital in Mobile. No one else involved in the wreck was taken to the hospital.
