BREAKING: Supervisor Lindsey Horvath told me the county can't fix unsheltered homelessness because they don't have the land.
They have the land.
Rancho Los Amigos in Downey: 74 county-owned acres, bought in 1887 to house the destitute, sitting unused since 1988. Wraparound medical and mental health services already on the adjacent campus.
You could shelter up to half of LA County's unsheltered population here alone.
Instead it's becoming a $479M office complex, warehouse, and parking garage β built at nearly triple market rate, restricted to the building trades unions that gave $100K to her campaign and helped her pass Measure A, the $1B/year homelessness sales tax she uses to route money to her donors.

NEW: An Eagle Police deputy was injured early May 18th after stopping a 15-year-old riding an electric motorcycle in what police described as a reckless and escalating encounter on W. Chinden Boulevard, according to the Eagle Police Department, Idaho.
At about 12:10 a.m., the deputy was driving eastbound on W. Chinden Blvd. when he saw an individual riding an electric motorcycle westbound. As the rider passed, authorities say the deputy noticed the motorcycle had a headlight but no taillight.
On social media, the Eagle Police Department shared the deputy turned around and began following the rider and saw the riderβs driving become βincreasingly reckless and erraticβ as the rider accelerated, swerved between lanes and drove into oncoming traffic. Police said the rider also ran a red light.
Police said the deputy exited his patrol vehicle and ordered the rider to stop, but the rider accelerated toward the deputy in an attempt to drive past him. With little space between the patrol vehicle and the electric motorcycle, police said the deputy wrapped his arms around the rider and took him to the ground.
The deputy suffered a minor leg injury and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being released. Please join us in sending prayers and, or positive thoughts for his recoveryππ»
