May 10-16 is National Police Week. This week is meant to not only honor the badge, but those who gave their lives in service of it, and in service of the American public.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol honors the lives of the three of its own who lost their lives in the line of duty. Patrolman Pete Visser, who was killed in 1981 when his patrol vehicle was rear ended by a drunk driver. Patrolman Chris Lodgeson was killed when he was forced off the road by a wrong-way driver on I-25 in 1998. Highway Patrol K9 Robbie died when he was struck by a semi-truck during a traffic stop in 2014.

Praying for the Dallas Police officers who were injured in a small plane crash this morning.🙏🏻
A small plane carrying three off-duty Dallas police officers crashed near Forney early Saturday, sending all three officers to nearby hospitals, the Dallas Police Department said.
One officer has been released, one is listed in stable condition, and one remains in critical condition, DPD said in a May 16 statement. Officials had not released the officers’ names.
The crash happened overnight near Forney, according to DPD. The department said the Forney Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the incident.
Dallas Police Association President Sean Pease said the officers were off duty and returning from a personal trip when the crash occurred.
“We are grateful that all three officers survived the crash,” Pease said in a statement posted by the Dallas Police Association. “Two officers sustained minor injuries, while one officer suffered significant injuries and continues to receive medical treatment.”

On March 2, 2026, 32-year-old Malcolm Buchanan shot a man who intervened during an attempted sexual assault near a Metro Gold Line station in Pasadena. Police officers later encountered Buchanan, who resisted and fired at an officer, resulting in a shootout. The suspect died at the scene, and an officer was wounded in the leg. Buchanan was on parole for armed robbery, and the weapon used was stolen. The incident remains under investigation.
