EXCLUSIVE: Sheriff slams Walz, Ellison for freeing convicted murderer: ‘They didn’t care about the truth’

Aitkin County Sheriff Dan Guida spoke with Liz Collin on her podcast about the case of Brian Pippitt—who was convicted of killing an 84-year-old store owner—and how he believes the questionable decision-making of Gov. Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison and his Conviction Review Unit has put confidence in the Minnesota criminal justice system on the line.

“The sheriffs across the state of Minnesota stand strong together. We're going to fight evil. But when the politics get in front of good versus bad, bad things happen," said Sheriff Guida. 

Ellison and Walz, who make up two-thirds of the Minnesota Board of Pardons, voted to commute Pippitt’s sentence despite substantial opposition from Sheriff Guida, another member of the pardon board, and many others.

Descano has dismissed criticism of his malfeasance as political attacks.

Fairfax County, VA Commonwealth Attorney Steve Descano uses his opening statement to turn around and apologize to Stephanie Minter's mom:

"Miss Minter, I am deeply sorry for your loss, and I say that not only as a prosecutor, but as a parent of a daughter. I am sorry for what you were having to endure, and I promise that my office is doing everything we can to prosecute the man responsible."

Descano then went on to testify that his prosecution policies do not protect or favor illegal aliens. However, here's what his his website said for years until recently being removed:

“Wherever possible, Steve will make charging and plea decisions that limit or avoid immigration consequences” and “If two people commit the same crime, but only one’s punishment includes deportation, that’s a perversion of justice and not a reflection of the values of Fairfax County.”
