In April 2021, 61 year old Margaret Johnson Street was walking down the street when she was brutally punched in the face by a total stranger, Jeremiah Mark, while visiting the French Quarter in New Orleans.

Authorities believe Margaret was sightseeing when Jeremiah Mark approached her and demanded her purse. Margaret asked to be left alone but Jeremiah Mark wouldn't stop, when Margaret threatened to call the cops, Mark hit her so hard in the face, she fell backward hit the sidewalk & cracked her skull.

Margaret passed away 2 days later leaving behind her daughter and two grandchildren.

Arrested April 2021 → Plea deal ~ 2 years and a week in a parish jail. Mark got out of prison in 2023, after a two year buddy party bro-down. A feral thug takes a grandmother's life and gets 2 years in jail, something's terribly wrong in our country.

Margaret's gone, Mark's not, that's the problem.

This Mother’s Day, we especially honor Angel Moms.

Words cannot describe the pain of losing a child. Knowing their child’s deaths were entirely preventable only adds to the pain these brave women face every day.

Sergeant Christopher M. Bracks passed away on May 10, 2022.

Christopher joined the Sheriff’s Department on April 12, 2006, and was assigned to Walnut Station at the time of his passing.

Sergeant Bracks was participating in the Police Unity Tour and National Police Week Honor Detail when, at approximately 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time, he experienced a medical emergency. He was transported to a local hospital, where lifesaving efforts were made. Tragically, Sergeant Bracks did not survive.

Christopher was also a proud veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps.

Learn more about the temporary increase in earthquake activity near Brawley, CA - known as a seismic swarm.  The USGS assesses that the earthquake caused no-to-light damage from shaking. Approximately 180 thousand people experienced Light (MMI IV) to Strong (MMI VI) shaking.

The ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning System was activated several times resulting in alert deliveries to cell phones.
